Tattoos suck a fat cock. I had a dream once that I got a tattoo, then I woke up and wanted to chastise my subconscious for being so stupid. Clean skin for the win. "That rhymes Marge and you know it rhymes. Admit it!"

I think secretly people who don't like tattoos are just too scared about what people will think of them.

So what some tattoos are stupid and what not, but if it reminds you of how you felt at a certain point in your life and sometimes has the added bonus of looking awesome then whats wrong with them?

Anyone been watching London Ink? "FOUR OF THE BEST TATTOO ARTISTS IN THE UK" debatable. Quite entertaining though.

well, they tried to get everyone from Lal Hardy to Alex Binnie involved, but those are the three that ended up doing it (plus Dan Gold, whose shop it is)
i know that molloy had a higher profile than most because of his Beckham tattoos, but I know two of the others personally, and they are not exactly scratchers  - they are definitely rated. Dan has his fair share of critics, but I think that's more to do with his methodolgy and 'time management' rather than his actual output. I haven't got round to watching the show yet - i'm not sure I will. I think it might be quite embarrassing.

but who are the big names in UK tattooing these days anyway? Steve Byrne? Mo Coppaletta? Lots of good artists, but no superstars ... so i don't think it's that outrageous a claim

Re: Tattoos

I actually think in Terms of Vision Dan Gold is the best of the lot, although he's not technically as good yet as maybe the other three. He definetly has more of his own style.

And it isn't so much a case of thinking they're not worthy of being the top four tattoo artists in the UK, but I think that in general any statement to the affect of "these four people are the best at this" is silly. Its far to subjective. There are some great tribal artists for example, but I don't like tribal tattoos, etc.

I quite like what I'd seen of Phil's stuff, but so far I've only seen what he does on the show and there hasn't been any really great pieces for him yet. Just small stuff on lassies feet and crappy designs by customers.

was it not 'four of the best' rather than 'the best four' - big difference between those two statements. but i'd agree Dan is the best of those four - for purely egotistical reasons - haha!

Re: Tattoos

i suppose I should hype up my mate, cos he's started working in London recently - not only was he responsible for the legendary Magic Crappens tattoos, he is a good tattoist as well.

Re: Tattoos

I agree totally with Jamie about Dan Gold, his time-management, in fact general organisation and occasional sketchiness didn't help his reputation. But having been tattooed by him his talent, in terms of drawing, tattooing and most importantly transposing his ideas, Dan is as good as most, and a really nice fella as well.

We've got, trouble, violence, aggro, right now!

Re: Tattoos

She's busy, getting married next month as well so I dunno that you'd get anything this year. However, if your after stuff she's particularly into doing it does skip to the front a bit cause she gets asked for a lot of more standard designs.
