Topic: Roadside Monument

Anyone know of / into this band.  Just picked up the 7" for a buck and it's pretty ok, but from what I've read it sounds like the LP is where it's at.

Oh, and from the label (Tooth and Nail) I'm assuming godmo?

Re: Roadside Monument

I dig them! Quite a tough band to listen to - abrasive, awkward, mathy rock, with some very odd melodics. Great stuff at times.
They were on Tooth And Nail, and so were probably god botherers, but I didn't get that through the lyrics - similar to frodus in a way, who they shared a split with and who i still like a great deal
Got an album called "I Am The Day Of Current Taste" which is their last one of three I think - produced by J Robbins, has their longest pieces as far as i know. Keep forgetting to track down the other two albums - "Beside This Brief Hexagonal" and "8 Hours Away From Being A Man". If you track down the CDs for cheap, let me know!
I also have a split with Puller (another T&N band, not that great from what i remember) somewhere.

Re: Roadside Monument

i have the above mentioned full length, will have to dig it out

I'm not singing for the future
I'm not dreaming of the past
I'm not talking of the first time
I never think about the last

ah yes, the "8 hours..." LP is the one I was reading about.  Sounds like they probably changed quite a lot over the course of those albums as the (first) 7" I have is reasonably straightforward indieish stuff. Yeh will have to keep an eye out for other releases.

Re: Roadside Monument

i've got a tooth an nail comp (includes: damien jurado, pedro the lion too) and their song is really messy midwestmo spoiled by some wayward chord changes

they're also on the "(don't forget to) breathe" comp

Re: Roadside Monument

I think anything before 8 hours wasn't as good - more straight up emo-ish indie rock. The bassist who joined when they recorded 8 hours, Johnathon Ford, formed an instrumental band called unwed sailor after roadside broke up. I still can't get over how good the recording of their last album is - a lot of noise for a 3 piece!
