...but still kind of rocking, like Codeine, or the first Karate album before Farina learned a few jazz chords. Even stuff that's similar to Jesu as well. Proper winter music.

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

lots of stuff in static cult label

bedhead, idaho, low ?

that shores new album might be what you are looking for

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

the white birch (wonder who they were influenced by. it's not as out and out codeine as the name would suggest mind you)

guys you should totally be taking advantage of the youtube embed feature for threads like this. POST SONGS! it makes it more fun and something other than just another fucking list of bands to namedrop.

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

Definitely want to find more of this type of stuff too.

Like that Eiafuawn track. Bedhead was okay too.

Still looking for stuff with a bit more rock to it as well though, but still slow miserable as fuck.

Been listening to the first side of The Keep 7" a lot today. Don't know if this is what you're looking for. It's a great 7" regardless.

edit: http://www.myspace.com/bunchofingrates - 'Angelfish With Filthy Souls' is the song I was referring to.

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

oh that bluetile lounge sound pretty good, although at first listen it sounds like they more than borrow from codeine

so picky! just listen to slint and be done with it. wink

also: boilermaker.

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

I can't stop listening to Damien Jurado at the moment. Mostly folky but can get a bit more rocking. Definitely bleak, sad, and slow a lot of the time...This one rules:

We're going to party, karamu, fiesta, forever.

Btw in case you haven't heard it, the second Karate lp is along the same lines as the first, and also very good.

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

I'd never heard Boilermaker before. Wasn't really what I was wanting, but I dig it.

And yeah, second Karate album is probably just as good as the first. I love it all though. Even when they went full blown Santana.

it's a good day to hide by pygmy lush.

bloody hell. lets lock the thread now whilst you go off and listen to in wallaces shadow and 11 songs properly! wink

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

the True Widow album maybe?

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

my favourite bedhead song:

rex, galaxie 500, red house painters and the dying californian.

maybe a bit of slowdive, or mojave 3 (but not their last big star happy album) too.

Not checked everything out in this thread yet, but am loving the Bluetile Lounge 'Lowercase' album thanks to Stefan. Their second album is meant to be good too...?

Re: Recommend stuff that's bleak, sad and slow...

bluetile lounge reminds me of mark kozelek.
