Re: IO

Sun Tornado actually didn't disband already... Derek from Io just lives in a different city than the other two members, so they only play occasionally... its all improvised (as far as I know)... they just recorded a demo this weekend, I believe.

And I'm not really surprised when many folks who are really into Io are bored by Belegost (or tsll for that matter, though we do a few things more similar to Io than bgost... maybe check out our other stuff though, www.thesealikelead.com and www.myspace.com/thesealikelead), as its only the drummer and completely different musically.  Its really a bit of a misnomer to label them ex-Io, I suppose.

Io are definitely one of my favorite bands of all time and probably one of the best bands to ever come out of Pittsburgh.  It is too bad they never really got to play out of town or keep doing music together...supposedly, though, they will be doing a reunion show for the Hardtravelin fest here in August, should be insane.

Re: IO

Funny this, someone let me hear IO on their diskman at a party a few weeks ago. They rightly predicted it to be right up my street, fucking raging.

Re: IO

Jesus fuck. I actualy have the 7" somewhere. It came with something else and I don't think I ever even played it, doh!

Re: IO

The 7" is definitely some of their best stuff... it was interesting how it came about, because originally they just recorded the music and came back to do the vocals months and months later.  The release/"reunion" show for that record was one of the most intense nights of my entire life.

Re: IO

Hello,
This is Derek from Io.  Glad to see there is interest in Io across the ocean.  Just thought I'd stop by and thank you guys for the kind words.

Also,
Mike and I (both guitarist in Io) are in a band called Sun Tornado, that is releasing a CDR/demo kind of thing tonight.  It's a little different and more diverse than Io.  We've entered the realm of improv and cover a wide terrain of musical styles. If any of you all interested, you can check us out at http://www.suntornado.com or http://www.myspace.com/suntornado.  If you like what you hear, we would gladly send you a copy (international postage will be covered by us).  Just send me an email at [email protected]

Re: IO

Delboy put me onto these guys, Pittsburgh Emo from 2002 - fucking awesome shotmaker style stuff! Anyone know anything about them? other releases/new bands?

Yeah, the 7" was decent too.

I like music.

Re: IO

Howdy - Derek from Io here.

Thanks for the kind words and continuing to listen 10 years later.

The link from the first post (http://iopgh.bandcamp.com/) is there to mark a decade since the album was released.  As hard as it is to find the album, it's not technically OOP - you can purchase from the link.

Not a lot has happened with various members of the band since Io.  Mike and I loosely did Sun Tornado for a while (and it may still be happening???)  Mike's in Washington DC, I'm living on the Oregon Coast.  Brian was guitar tech for Modest Mouse and Stephen Malkmus for a few years and has his own guitar repair shop in Portland, OR. He's also in a band called Jr. Worship.  JD played in a band in Philly called Belegost, but he was picked up and moved to Wisconsin with most of his time taken up as a vet.  Some of us throw around the idea of doing Io again.....until then, thanks for listening.

Re: IO

oop(s). sorry, i will edit toby's link, assumed it was long gone. thanks for a good record!

Re: IO

Brian's such a sweet dude, fixes my guitar for me when I break things. Io ruled.

Re: IO

picked up the 7" from Parade, unbelievably good. Very stoked on this band at the moment.
