Pye Corner Audio: Black Mill Tapes Vol.3

Vol.1 was excellent, Vol.2 not so, Vol.3 is working it's magic.

the Pye Audio Corner - Sleep Games LP is great.

the Holly Herndon album is some pretty far out electronic stuff. kind of a mix between synth stuff and more academic stuff - http://rvng.bandcamp.com/album/movement

latest Moritz Von Oswald Trio album is another masterpiece.

Re: Electronic Music

That new Pye Corner Audio album is so incredible.

The new Bee Mask LP is excellent as well.

What do people think of Vatican Shadow? I like it but it's a bit of a poor man's Muslimgauze imo.

Re: Electronic Music

not too into Vatican Shadow but I really like the Silent Servant album his label put out recently

Re: Electronic Music

Just checked this out:

I like it, sounds like Autechre

i just regularly check boomkat

Re: Electronic Music

where everything is essential. Still, at least you can listen for yourself.

Re: Electronic Music

I went through a six month period where stuff on Type was almost literally all listened to. SO much good stuff, but particularly like the Thomas Koner Nunatak / Teimo / Permafrost 3cd (on sale at Boomkat currently FYI, bargain), the second Mokira album they put out (Persona... brilliant atmospheric dubtechno stuff), For Frosty Mornings and Summer Nights by Xela for a bit of nice glitch, and the last Yellow Swans record (totally amazing, obviously). Less overtly electronic, but Alphabet 1968 by Black To Comm is outstanding too. I don't think i've ever got anything from Type i didn't like, really.

Re: Electronic Music

Boomkat is great for finding new stuff. But yeah, like Aquarius records, caveat emptor.

The Wire is always good for stuff as well although I shook my fist at them for the Pye Corner Audio review.

Fact and Resident Advisor are pretty good for getting an occasional podmix/mixpod thing

Re: Electronic Music

I find most new stuff out just by recommendations on twitter nowadays!

You can listen to the new Tim Hecker and OPN collab here:

Re: Electronic Music

was pretty disappointed with the TH/OPN collaborative record and the OPN/RH split LP. both sounded pretty lazy to me but seemingly lopatin can still do no wrong in the eyes of the tumblr community...

the vatican shadow lp on type is pretty shit. the track cut offs make it sound like compiled odds and ends with no fully fleshed out ideas. before anything's really taken hold its finished and on to the next one. i really enjoyed the lp on modern love, though.

new bee mask is definitely awesome.

interested to hear what people thought of the new emeralds as i thought that was absolutely shit

Re: Electronic Music

listened to a few of the songs on the new Emeralds one. i like it. controversially i prefer their new, more produced sound over their old bedroom tape murk sound.

Re: Electronic Music

New Pete Swanson is bitching. Last Christian Cosmos 12 is decent too.
Not listened to the new Emeralds yet, sounds like McGuire's got his new age finger in the pie a bit deep this time?

Re: Electronic Music

don't dig the new emeralds. like a lot of mcguire's solo stuff so i dunno if i would pin it on him, the legit production just makes everything sound kind of corny. anyone ever watch that van damme movie 'replicant'? the soundtrack to that is what new emeralds sounds like to me.

Re: Electronic Music

indeed, i find it very corny. i thought mcguire's get lost album was full of cheese as well though.

Re: Electronic Music

easily all the best electronic stuff i bought this year has been reissues - cluster, suzanne ciani, parry music, monoton, black rain, schaltkreis wassermann, harmonitalk, dariush dolat-shahi... too much incredible old stuff being put out all at the same time

Re: Electronic Music

was really intrigued reading about that dariush dolat-shahi reissue, may have to give it a listen

Re: Electronic Music

New Raime LP called Quarter Turns Over a Living Line on Blackest Ever Black is really good

Re: Electronic Music

The first Biosphere record, 'Moondawn' by Klaus Schulze, the first side of the Psyche/BFC record, Rob Hubbard's C64 theme to Monty on the Run, and this:

Re: Electronic Music

new LEGOWELT, Paranormal Soul, is really good.

Re: Electronic Music

I've been really getting into Klaus Schulze lately, especially Timewind and Cyborg

Re: Electronic Music

new jar moff release on PAN is really good, sounds like a science-fiction ghedalia tazartes

still not heard the new motion sickness of time travel, anyone know if it's any good?
