Contemporary - I really like the Ballina Whalers and Linde Nijland. The second Linda Perhacs album (40 years after the first) is worth a shot.

Also, there is a good new book Penguin out on the English Folk Songs.

old, but new to me:

been trawling through topic records' 'world series' this year...love the Bulgarian and Albanian ones especially! some of the Smithsonian folkways regional compilations too...

hladowski joyne's 'the wild wild berry' although a year or two old get's regular listens...'died for love' floors me every time!

also, the alan lomax archive's youtube channel is kind of what make's the internet great in my view?

yup, use CGCGCD loads, even the most basic stuff sounds lush. nic jones and martin simpson, among many others use it tons. current favourite to play being this:
