i'd written off lucero a long time ago but that new album is kind of pretty good.

Re: current playlists

never totally went off them but they appeared to be going through some type of identity crisis, i think for each of the last 3 or so records they seem to have like 4 fairly unnecessary new members, i guess they finally figured out what the fuck is going on

Re: current playlists

Last few days:
The Feelies: The Good Earth LP (music based upon Jonathan Richman's obsession with playing quietly, pretty much. So great)
Gun Outfit: Two Player EP
Herbie Hancock: Sextant LP
Herbie Mann: Hold On I'm Comin LP (early 70s live record with Sharrock and co and some good cuts off Memphis Underground)
Donald Byrd: Stepping Into Tomorrow LP
Sun City Girls: Torch of the Mystics LP (need to pick up the reissue!)
Cold Sweat: Blinded LP (best best best)
Neu 75 LP (always)
Also been listening to Consumer Electronics most recent records, prior to seeing em in a couple of months.

Re: current playlists

Fela Kuti - Expensive Shit (held off on this despite loving Fela, probably because of the title - it's great. Harder edged and funkier than most of his stuff)
Miles Davis/Sonny Rollins - Dig (I usually like my jazz a bit cooler but this is growing on me)
Basement Benders - Lydiad (everything that comes out of Chattanooga seems to be amazing)
VA - Who Put The Bomb? (powerpopperfection)
Flamin' Groovies - Supersnazz (more of the above)

Re: current playlists

My favourite Fela record. So kinetic.

Myself:
The Cure: Seventeen Seconds and Disintegration (the latter a big influence on Burzum, ha!)
Joni Mitchell: Blue LP
Killing Joke: Fire Dances LP
Tormentor: Anno Domini LP
Death: Scream Bloody Gore LP
Repulsion: Horrified LP
Napalm Death: Utopia Banished LP (underrated banger)
Joe Gibbs & The Professionals: African Dub Chapter 3 LP
Discharge: Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing LP (world smasher, life affirmer)
Soft Cell: Non Stop Erotic Cabaret LP (best band that came out of '80s Leeds, fact)
