exxcellent folks

hi. we (arkless) rented a guitar head last year from matt snowball music. it's a huge company that does audio rentals for all kinds of shit. not particularly cheap but it's a good backup to have.

so i think everyone in this thread that cares already knows, but arkless just recorded some new songs that are up on bandcamp: www.arkless.bandcamp.com

andy mirieth put together a tearjerker of a video which you can watch below if you want to ruin your sunday mood

https://youtu.be/uZO7JJ3CzzA

these new songs will be on a split CDr/tape with healing powers for our tour together in August

we are looking for anyone interested in putting these on an actual release at some point, so do get in touch.

thank you all

hi everyone

our (arkless) tour with Healing Powers is rapidly approaching and we're still looking to fill a couple of dates. if you know anyone that could help, please drop a message to us or email [email protected]

dates we need to fill:

15th August - Berlin or similar

17th, 18th, 19th August on the way through Germany back to Callais where we'll take the ferry home on the 20th.

Places like Frankfurt, Munich, Stuttgart, anywhere in Belgium, Holland or N./E/N.E France could also work.

Dates we have booked and confirmed:

11th - Brighton
12th - Dortmund
13th - Hamburg
14th - Copenhagen

16th - Vienna

So there's one gap in the middle then a couple on the way home.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Much love.

Lately I've been perusing various best-of lists on blogs in hopes of finding recent emo/hc bands to get excited about again...and not sure if it's solely a function of getting old, but seems really hard for me not to hear just a bunch of obvious retreads, even when it's done well.

Am plenty interested in various other genres at present, but perhaps there's really only so much you can within the tight confines of a niche-genre like the 'mo...and after close to 2 decades of listening new bands will inevitably sound redundant? Would be interested to hear others people thoughts on this - I kinda hate to sound so jaded!

I hear ya!

Do foreign emo bands still tour the UK?
Been ages since I've seen a good one, the closest was possibly Institute (but doubt they would refer to themselves as revolution summer), before that Bâton Rouge?
Have I missed any?

Too many bands based in Australia!

Feel like we've had some great UK bands over last few years - Human Hands and Carson Wells esp., and regret not getting to the Arkless gig in Leeds the other year

you've missed Asthenia that are more on the emo hc end of things, but were incredible.

someone the other day decided the record I bought off them wasnt in the NM condition they had described and decided to post it before sending an invoice, and just have me decide what I felt was a fair price. surreal.

how we are still making up 90s emo bands in 2016 is beyond me, but this is pretty good

recently gotten myself into a train commute in the mornings so have done lots of reading, most recently:

joyce carol oates - expensive people
richard yates - eleven kinds of loneliness
jerzy konsiski - steps

picked these last two from a david foster wallace essay where he does his weird book recommendations, quite liked them, particularly yates.

and currently bernard malmud - the fixer, which feels like a late 1800s/early 1990s russian novel written in the 1960, quite into it.
