Pretty stacked line-up. Wicked to see this happening in Oxford, about time someone did a decent DIY all-dayer!

Monday 28th August 2017

SARCASM (London)
Fantastically bleak post-punk in the vein of Crisis, Wire etc., with an excellent demo tape and debut 7" on Static Shock Records. One of the best new punk bands in London at the moment and excellent live...
https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com … ial-bog-ep

OWNER (London)
Awesome punk reminiscent of late 70's US punk/proto hardcore... Think The Weirdos, The Fix, the first Plasmatics record. Just dropped their demo tape which absolutely fucking slays.
http://ownerpunk.bandcamp.com/album/demo-2017

DRAMA KIDS (Oxford)
Killer catchy punk/power pop/emo somewhere between Far, Jawbreaker and Descendents.

Q (USA)
Over to wreck Europe with their fuzzed-out, unhinged punk. Their latest record "Relaxed Mike" is a banger, and their self-titled 7" on Lumpy Records last year was unstoppable. From Cut N' Pate Yr Face blog... "St. Louis, Missouri's Q is a violent and degenerate display of fierce contemporary hardcore punk. These scumbags spit out angry mid-to-fast tempo hardcore with slight d-beat inspiration that grabs your by the throat. This stuff is ugly, thumping and manic with a memorably wild result"
Bandcamp here: https://goo.gl/4tw9yX

STATE FUNERAL
Part of the new wave of ridiculously good hardcore bands coming out of Brighton. Their first tape "Tory Party Prison" was re-released by Boss Tuneage on flexi-disc earlier this year, and it's a fitting soundtrack to the rainy, austerity-scorched, nothing-left-to-lose, Thatcher mk2 Britian.

GUILT POLICE
Local blistercore punk fiends, comparisons to Discharge/Black Flag/Hoax/AmRep.

WORRY
New Oxford band... Awesome mix of fast and slow hardcore. Imagine if Unsane stepped on the gas and dropped a few d-beats in.

MARTHA

Hailing from Pity Me, Durham, Martha play energetic, impassioned power pop with intricate vocal interplay and lush four-part harmonies. The band is comprised of J. Cairns (guitar), Daniel Ellis (guitar), Naomi Griffin (bass), and Nathan Stephens Griffin (drums). All four members sing and write the songs. Their debut album “Courting Strong”, produced by MJ from Hookworms, came out in 2014 and was included in NPR’s top 50 albums of that year, winning them the epithet “One of Britain’s best rock bands”.

FANCY DRESS PARTY
Killer sulkwave/indie-punk/powerpop from Oxford, they've only done two shows so far but have absolutely slayed both of them... This is a band to keep an eye on, and they seem to nail this awesome mixture of early Sunny Day Real Estate and bedroom powerpop. Featuring ex-members of Too Many Poets, Slate Hearts, and others.

DRAMA KIDS
The first ever Smash Disco show at the Library was headlined by Hate Mail, our favourite local punk brats who sounded like Jawbreaker or Dag Nasty but with more attitude. After their sad demise, some of them are back playing similarly awesome melodic punk. This is their first gig!

The new wave of London punk… Released an absolute banger of a demo tape earlier this year and are already leaving a trail of destruction in their wake whenever they play live. Fuzzy, bratty, bad attitude raw punk. It's called LDN GOTH MOSH. Do not miss this band!

NEGATIV
Absolutely face-melting primitive hardcore from Oslo, Norway. They only formed in late 2015, and have released a killer demo tape and 7", the latter of which was definitely a highlight of 2016. It's dark, stripped down hardcore for negative punx...
https://negativ1010.bandcamp.com/album/ … c-thoughts

The Swell (London/Oxford)
More primitive hardcore... Imagine if a no wave band wrote punk songs and borrowed their gear from Darkthrone in 1993 and it's somewhere close to it... and that's why we're waiting patiently for their imminent demo/record/whatever.

Basic Dicks (Oxford)
Local raw punk... "Imagine if Kleenex, Pink Pile, Oh-ok, and Suburban Lawns came at you like Akka and Confuse... a super-solid, threatening demo with a focus on feminism and veganism" (MRR April 2017). That should be enough to make you wanna come along and pogo to this 'til you puke.

GENERACION SUICIDA (USA)
Hailing from South Los Angeles, this band of [email protected] street punx have lit up California’s DIY punk scene over the last few years. They have 3 LPs under their belts and just keep getting better and better. Urgent, catchy, melodic punk, raised on a diet of Ramones and Killed By Death compilations. They have a furious DIY ethic to playing and touring. Starting out playing shows in 2012 the garage next door to their house, they’ve gone on to playing all over the world including Central America, Japan and Europe. But despite their relentless touring across the globe, they wear their roots on their sleeves with fierce pride… this is musica del barrio, para el barrio… Music of the neighbourhood, for the neighbourhood. And we’re really buzzing about welcoming them to Oxford on their first visit to the UK.

Do not miss this band!

Uranium Club
Awesome punk from Minneapolis, with an LP out on Static Shock Records and a new 7" on the way on Lumpy Records.
"Uranium Club play a kind of minimalist, agitated, catchy punk rock that reminds us of Wire before they released 'Pink Flag', but with an extra snotty attitude and bundles of energy. For a more recent comparison try early Total Control or the Shitty Limits. Each of the seven tracks on here explode from the vinyl, with each track more energetic than the one before, and they'll all be stuck in your head for weeks afterwards." (Static Shock Records)
https://staticshockrecords.bandcamp.com … xploration

Lucy Leave
These are one of the best bands in Oxford at the moment and are so explosive live. Don't know quite what they're doing but it's a warped mash up of Sonic Youth and Syd Barrett and The Breeders and it rules.
https://lucyleave.bandcamp.com/

Grub
Fuzzed out slacker punk/garage/psych in a world where it's always 4:20... Like The Stooges and Spacemen 3. Or Fu Manchu if someone snuck a Killed By Death comp into their AC/DC collection.

Just giving this a bump as this is next week...

Mystic Inane discography now available to download and buy from LVEUM:

This show is one week today...

Two wicked new releases just out -

Ultra have just released their 7":

Drore have also released their tape:
http://drore.bandcamp.com/releases

Free entry - Tues 13th Sept 2016

MYSTIC INANE
Awesome messed up punk from New Orleans, visiting as part of a mammoth European tour. This band fucking rules... Like a hungover, warped amalgamation of proto punk (Stooges, Dead Boys etc.) and early hardcore, taking in everything from the slow dirge of Flipper to the hyperactive energy of the Necros. Sounds like chaos but they manage to nail it and sound consistently badass the whole time. They have released a bunch of sick EP’s and tapes on the likes of Lumpy Records and Negative Jazz, and this tour coincides with a discography being released by La Vida Es Un Mus records.
https://mysticinane.bandcamp.com/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9pZup9f0oM

SCRAP BRAIN
Hailing from Oxford, Bath, and London and featuring members of Garden Centre, Hate Filled Kids and Es… Demo tape out soon. Awesome primitive fuzzed out KBD-style hardcore.

BASIC DICKS
Rudimentary pogo hardcore from the secret anarcho vegan enclaves of Oxfordshire. Featuring ex- and current members of Undersmile, Drore, Too Many Poets and Girl Power.

ANARQUIA VERTICAL
Sick super-fast hardcore punk from Barcelona. They managed to cram in 10 songs on their debut 7” single “Guerra Higenieca” on Antidoto Records. Check out what Sorry State Records had to say:
“this EP reminds me of anything from the Negative Approach EP to Pick Your King to the Teen Idles EP to Koro... but what it sounds most like is the great, wild, and furious early years of Italian hardcore. Though this band is from Spain, there's an unhinged quality to their music that reminds me a lot of bands like Wretched and early Indigesti, but even faster… this thing is absolutely explosive.”
https://anarquiavertical.bandcamp.com/

ULTRA
Also from Barcelona. Can’t find much info about this band online, but they have a debut single coming out soon on La Vida Es Un Mus records. You can hear bits of that classic, hyperactive, raw early 80’s US hardcore sound of bands like Negative Approach and SS Decontrol and all that awesome shit. Check out this insanely good live video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfgTgzFWvAo

DRORE
Ridiculously heavy sludge/doom/punk who are probably the best band in Oxford at the moment. We could use all the superlatives to describe them but who cares – the bottom line is this band is the real deal. Featuring ex- and current members of Undersmile, Girl Power, Crippled Black Phoenix and Basic Dicks. New tape out now...

THE SWELL
New sick raw punk band from Oxford & London, pounding mid tempo hardcore punk beats with hyper-fuzzed out black metal style guitars. Tape out soon!

Friday 12th August @ East Oxford Community Centre...

Martha
These are one of the best bands in the UK at the moment, hailing from Pity Me in County Durham. The perfect combination of power pop and garage rock n' roll, with the attitude of anarcho punk and an unshakable DIY ethic. Touring in support of their second album "Blisters In The Pit Of My Heart" on Fortuna Pop Records in the UK (Joanna Gruesome, Milky Wimpshake, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart etc.) and Dirtnap in the USA (Marked Men, Radioactivity, Nervosas etc.) with releases also on Tuff Enuff, Odd Box and Salinas Records.
"Their debut album Courting Strong came out in 2014 and was included in NPR’s top 50 albums of that year, winning them the epithet, “One of Britain’s best rock bands.” If the band’s first album was about punks growing up, then Blisters In The Pit Of My Heart is about grown-ups staying punk, trying to stay creative and passionate, and making the most of everything in spite of the many obstacles that get in the way." (Dirtnap Records)

Rainbow Reservoir
Gnarly fuzzed out jams about doing a sex to your dentist. Sounding somewhere between Shonen Knife, The B52's and The Moldy Peaches with a healthy dose of the Ramones' "FUCK YOU" gang mentality. New 7" single out this summer on Odd Box Records
https://oddboxrecords.bandcamp.com/albu … eps-around
https://rainbowreservoir.bandcamp.com/

Lucy Leave
Hard to pin this band down to one particular style, sometimes you can hear Syd Barratt, sometimes you can hear Sonic Youth, or they sound like The Lovely Eggs on acid, but whatever sound they're making it always sounds fucking rad. Self-released their debut EP "Fighter Pilot" and their demo "Jesus Walks Funny", both of which are insanely good and they've quickly established themselves as one of the best bands in Oxford right now.
