Topic: festival of dead deer

i just got some mp3s of this band coz i thought there name was kinda cool, and another san diego style hardcore band i have missed, no! but nevermind i know them and now and knowing me ill be bumming on about how much i like them and everything else from that area for ever and ever.

but yes cool, what did they release all i can find is some kind of collection or discography i dont know

they did a split with crimson curse i know that which is always good

so right i now have a mental list in my head of bands that play this san diego/or atleast influenced noisy hardcore...

Heroin, Mohinder, Swing kids, Crimson Curse, Festival of dead deer, angel hair, antioch arrow, and more recently Tigers! and blame game.. what else am i missing because i think its sassy shite when its actually joe friendly fucked up hardcore? wink

Re: festival of dead deer

This band are so fucking weird.

Like a mix of Shellac and Swing Kids!

Amazing.

The vinyl laverly too.

Boojanks.

I'm not into that.

Re: festival of dead deer

i haven't listened to this in forever. nadia reviewed the lp in under 50 words. tis a good un.

they also did a split square record with the crimson curse. i think there might be a cd that compiles the lp, split 7" and some live stuff and maybe another 7"? i'm not sure.

Re: festival of dead deer

i've been waiting on a guyver one 7" in the mail for ages, they were vaguely in that style i believe

damo

I'm not singing for the future
I'm not dreaming of the past
I'm not talking of the first time
I never think about the last

Re: festival of dead deer

guyver-one are fucking ace! the 7" is ace, just tips the LP imo. the LP is though, too.

Re: festival of dead deer

yes! thanks damo thats a band i got into when i wasnt rocking much hardcore and emo at the time and deleted eventually, now if only soulseek would let me on... guyver one have 2 releases dont they? the s/t 7" and the obsessed with lp? or am i totally the wrong way round..... i think i am

Re: festival of dead deer

yeah, guyver one is a good pick for that style - bit of a swing kids clone though! the lp has an amazing emo song on it mind you.

Re: festival of dead deer

ohhh whats it called andrew?

Re: festival of dead deer

i don't know, i only have it on tape somewhere. the lp is something like 7 or 8 songs long so get them all.

Re: festival of dead deer

festival of dead deer are weird. sometimes i love them and sometimes listening to their lp makes me feel sick. also, staring at a square record spinning round on your turntable is wrong. very, very wrong.

Re: festival of dead deer

Re: festival of dead deer

No Toby, i slapped you about the head. If i'd punched you in the face, you wouldn't be alive today. FACT.

Festival of Dead Deer are very good.

Unbelievable. And very brave.

Re: festival of dead deer

paul you nearly gouged one of my eyes out!  have you heard that the alldayer in boro has moved to the arena? wont that be a laugh, think we'll play good this time?

dont struggle!

Re: festival of dead deer

The arena is the worst venue i have ever been to/played in. FULL STOP.

Tigers are out to break the 'boro curse on sunday. We have played there, three times before? Each show has been absolutley horrible...in terms of our performance.

The last time we played the arena was at an alldayer. We go on mid-afternoon and play on this ugly huge stage to a massive room that has, at best, twenty people in it. Horrible bright lights, a pointlessly loud p.a with no bodies to soak up any of the sound. The net result of all this was it was like playing in a headache. Even though everything was stupid loud we couldn't hear each other and so we just kept falling on our arses. At one point i went and hid behind an amp because i was so embarrassed. At the end of the set i freaked out, blacked out and came to about 5 feet away from the stage, on top of dicko (Tigers guitarist). It turns out that i had simply lept off the stage, bass around my neck still plugged in and everything, and landed square on Dicko who had been milling around the front of the stage, as is his perogative. I have no recollection of doing this, but have the bruises to prove it!

So yeah, hopefully we will do better this weekend.

p.s Bias, what time do we 'go on' in 'boro. part of me wants to try and squeeze in on Sara's bill in Manc, if she'll have us. Plus i fancy a manic, money burning cross country gig race as we are quite good at it and it will make Nash bleat like the hippie he is.

Unbelievable. And very brave.

Re: festival of dead deer

paul you know im in for flogging nashs hippie ass across the country but i believe we have other issues....namely john dont finish work until 5 making making it a triple fast drive across the country and also humanfly are playing the boro now too thus making it even harder to pull off but if you can figure a way of doing it then lets go!
i think this is the third boro show, there was the first arena show then the crippling out of tune acclam show so lets see what happens this time...hopefuly it will be in the smaller room where the team and humanfly played which was actaully pretty deccent rather than that fucking monstrousity of a venue upsatirs where dicko gets to live out his rockstar fantasies.  enough.
you going to the show tonight?

dont struggle!

Re: festival of dead deer

tipping canoe were sweeeeet. i'm sure joe will like them.

i reckon too. not sure who'd i compare them to, 400 years perhaps?

Re: festival of dead deer

i like their side of the ettil vrye split, is the rest good?

Tone

"I believe that it is possible for a person to be able to do what they want, aim for what they want, without the fear of what those around them might say....whatever you might choose to do in your life, make sure you make that choice yourself"

Re: festival of dead deer

yeah, the stuff on the split lp for sure compares to 400 years. for some reason i have the impression that the lp material was more like ordination of aaron/bob tilton, but that could be bollocks as i haven't listened to it in years.

also, i always wondered whether their name came from that ooa song 'battle of tippencanoe', heh.

Re: festival of dead deer

yes.

alex.

Re: festival of dead deer

dont struggle!
