But the riff that was made from the base was the heavy, slowly, darkness, and bad feelings.

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

i think of the current wave of pop punk bands at the moment i would have to say ringers are my favourite - the latest 7" is gold

really liked bent outta shape when they were around as well

You Are Freaking Me out probably has the best tunes, but I think Astray is my favourite album because of the sad feel of it, it just feels like the singer is giving up on life, great shit!

Yeah, that pretty much sums those two records up. Both awesome.

Pop-punk wise I guess Isocracy (if they count) and No Fun At All (haha). With NFAA though, it's kinda odd. Their demo and first record were almost straight-up HC.

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

seeing samiam live was the worst gig i have ever been too, and i haven't been able to listen to them since

and i call it ashtray, and it is my fave samiam record

"I believe that it is possible for a person to be able to do what they want, aim for what they want, without the fear of what those around them might say....whatever you might choose to do in your life, make sure you make that choice yourself"

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

I think a lot of people who saw them on the tour before last, which would've been touring the As(h)tray album, came away feeling bad. Persoannly I wasn't at any of those shows but i'm told that James Brogan quit just before the tour so they had to go out with just Segie on guitar.  Obviously for a band that sounds like Samiam do, just one guitar is gonna be pushed to cut it alone.
A similar thing happened to Last Days of April: they released "Angel Youth" which was really popular and loads of people were looking forward to seeing them. One of the guitarists and the keyboard player quit the week before the tour so they came over as a 3-piece.  The epic sound of the album was obviously totally stipped down to nothing and everyone walked away having been disapointed.
Getting back to Samiam tho, I can asure anyone who wasn't there that they were a blast at the Underworld last year.

Can you really be sure of the goddamn time of day?

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

Crash Diagnostic is a brilliant lp!

it kinda takes the style on Half Fiction and spreads it out a bit, there are songs more in one direction than another, if you see what I mean, it even has that spazzy song near the end! the version of Ariel on that lp is one of my top pop punk tunes ever

I decieded the other day I dont like Crimpshrine after being a band i "should" like for years, I just cant get into em.

Im pretty out of the loop with pop punk right now, i dont really listen to much "gruff" stuff at the moment, apart from the ones which are some of my fave bands ever (SBB, jawbreaker..), I wanna hear some more power pop/skate punk type stuff, happy tunes, goofy even

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

you really should be listening to the ergs then. not skate punk,  but everything else you list here. easily the best band of that type around.

the best pop punk band right now is the marked men. but they aren't 90s pop punk, more 70s pop punk. so fucking amazing. guys from that band are in high tension wires, potential johns and riverboat gamblers too. 4 superb bands. pretty ridiculous.

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

marked men are definitely sweet as hell, i second that

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

I saw Samiam the day I got my GCSE results

Skimmer - best UK pop punk band ever in my eyes

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

Kev Skimmer is a really nice bloke! Hope their new album does come out at some point.

Sinkhole were a cool band too. The singer is now in The Groucho Marxists who sound great: http://www.myspace.com/thegrouchomarxists

That's news to me! I'm sure I'd know about that, being a fan of most things Crackle!

Most of Chopper are just doing Pylon now, who are fucking brilliant.

Some of Chopper were doing Torino 74, who were fucking brilliant.

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

The Sweet Baby/Brent's TV CD is ridiculously good.  I think I remember hearing one of the dudes from MTX was somehow connected to this stuff but I'm not sure if that's true.  Also I really wish Ovens would put out another record already.

Re: Let's talk about Pop Punk

: ( that sucks.  I hope they don't break up and never release any of that stuff.  I'd be so pissed.  I hope they play again soon so I can bug them in person.  Also Abi Yoyos are also really good and I really should stop slacking on seeing them.  Oh and Sexy and Onion Flavored Rings and This Is My Fist.  Has anyone heard the Tiltwheel/Off With Their Heads split?  How is the Tiltwheel side?  Super polished stuff like that Watch It Burn split?

Sweet Baby had members who went on to be in Samiam and Wynona Riders.  I believe Brents TV members went ton to form the Hi-fives.  Awesome stuff!
