Re: Let's talk about video games

oooh, syndicate1/2 and starcraft are missing from my list!

Re: Let's talk about video games

Pro Evolution Soccer 5
Pro Evolution Soccer 6
World of Warcraft

My life for the past three years summed up in three games.

Re: Let's talk about video games

shit life.

my favourite game is final fantasy vii.  i was obsessed with tekken 3 when i was in year 8 and know the general back story for pretty much every character.  i also enjoy kingdom hearts 2 at the moment, although i haven't played it for a couple weeks.  on my gba i mainly play mario kart and final fantasy i, ii and tactics.  also zelda (my gba is the minish cap gold edition with the triforce and hyrule family crest).

Re: Let's talk about video games

As an addition, I used to be addicted to Thrasher - Skate and Destroy on the playstation.  Dominated Tony Hawks x 10.

Re: Let's talk about video games

that thrasher game was brilliant purely for the soundtrack.  probably the best that has ever existed actually.  unfortunately, my copy froze in certain places sad

Re: Let's talk about video games

i cant be bothered with an exhaustive list of older games as most have been already mentionned,
but defcon has made it into my list of all times favourites reccently for being utterly bleak and satisfyingly horrible to play.
nothing more gratifying than using a science LAN to vapourise millions of people and prove yourself a shrewder tactician than your workmates

assassin's creed looks like the best game EVER. it's looks disgustingly realistic. awesome premise for a game too.

Totally, the AI alone bests pretty much every other game I've seen of a similar ilk. Aesthetically speaking, I am sorely tempted by the prospect of getting an HD screen, purely for the purpose of viewing the game in all-out digital glory.

Magnets.

You are utterly mental. Sonic 3 always was and still is a fucking travesty. Some of the levels are actually completely broken.

Sonic & Knuckles is excellent, mind.

I loved Chaos, me and brother were a bit sad and used to just set up 8 computer controlled wizards and watch them battle it out.

Weren't these games done by guy that went on to do UFO Enemy Unknown?  Another classic PC game, alongside its sequel Terror From The Deep  (sorry if anyone's already mentioned these)

Other great speccy games:

Operation Wolf
Commando
Knightlore
School Daze
Lords of Midnight
Nightflyer/nightbomber?  some WWII flight simulator where you got to divebomb tanks

Bit out of the loop with current PC games as my machine has had its chips, hopefully getting a new one for my birthday next month.

Personal favourites of mine-

SCUMM engine point and clicks
Ultima series
Baldur's Gate and add-ons
Dungeon Siege
Planescape Torment
Freedom Force
Neverwinter Nights
Arcanum
Elder Scrolls
KOTOR

Genital Grinder

Re: Let's talk about video games

yep, the gollop brothers. this is their most recent effort:

my sister and i never watched the computer play, but we did have some epic games and one time she had the chaos spell! i only ever saw it once in i guess hundreds of games. we also enjoyed calling one of the wizards 'berlin' and then having them cast the 'wall' spell.

Operation Wolf

yes! but too easy.

Knightlore

good call, although i think i may have preferred head over heels in the isometric puzzler stakes. plus those guys were cuter.

School Daze

yes! - http://retrospec.sgn.net/game-overview.php?link=ko99

Lords of Midnight

i was fascinated by this game, it seemed like playing the fights from lord of the rings, but i always sucked at it.

with these and your pc picks i have to conclude that you have excellent taste in games smile

Re: Let's talk about video games

Flashback and Another World were great.

sadly, at the expense of having anything resembling a life in my formative years.

Just remembered a few more games I enjoyed-

on the spectrum - Attic Attack (I think it may have had a wackier spelling than that though)  That was pretty fun.  Oh, and Daley Thompson's Decathlon was about as far as I ever ventured into sports games, along with the winter and summer olympics games.

on the PC - has anyone ever played wizkid/whizzkid?  completely mental, sometimes I'm not sure if I imagined the whole thing.  Basic game was simple enough, you just bounced around trying to hit objects and collect points, whilst avoiding hitting the baddies.  But then it went into a weird sub game for each level.  I think at one point you had to take a crap in the ladies to make a volcano explode with turds to get to the next level.

Another great atmospheric game - Alone in the Dark, vaguely Lovecraftian influence, considered pretty groundbreaking in the world of 3D adventures at the time I think.

breather-resist: Think I read recently that Another World was being re-made into a snazzy 3D game.

Don't forget Future Wars. Everyone does.  It has some of my favourite game artwork.

What happened to Delphine Software is really quite sad. They made some of the most visually unique games ever before drifting into Motorbike-sim dullness and bankruptcy.

More favourite games of mine:

Elite
Fatal Frame
Metal Gear Solid: Ghost Babel (the Gameboy Colour one)
Future Wars
Flashback
Starfox
Vib Ribbon
Killer7
NiGHTS
Warning Forever

I also like about ten thousand of those bullet-hell psychedelic 2D shoot-em-ups from the likes of Team Shanghai Alice. They also have some of the best names ever and look this:

Re: Let's talk about video games

I second Flashback and Future Wars.

Killer 7 i've got but never played... is it really that good...

I suppose this'd be the right place to ask if anyone wants to sell me Mario Kart 64? I'd trade for records or money?

Disgaea goes in my favourite games category. I must've played it for about 100 hours and still got nowhere near doing everything. Mental.

I loved it. Total mindfuck of a plot and the visuals are incredible. I'll admit that the core game mechanics are clunky and rather uninspired, but it's really worth giving it a go. You'll never play anything else like it (apart from some of the other Grasshopper games like Michigan).

Get the Gamecube version if you can. It might cost a bit more but the loading times on the PS2 version are pretty horrendous.

Re: Let's talk about video games

Civilisation III
Age of Empires 2 / Age of Mythology

my two fave strag games (series)
