I don't really think you can not take it seriously, can you? Seeing as tattoos are pretty much permanent? Even if you have one lasered off it'll still be almost visible.

surely the picture speaks for itself? it's not that uncommon for people with thier own needles to doodle on themselves

I'm not talking of the first time

Re: Tattoos

its only skin.

Re: Tattoos

Tattoos are funny, like anything people who care too much about them are morons. People who hate on them too much are also morons. I might get a tattoo of Che Guevara wearing a right wing t-shirt.

We've got, trouble, violence, aggro, right now!

Speaking as someone who has more than one sketchy tattoo, no, whatever, it's not a big deal. I guess mine are confined to my legs but I've got over caring about how they look, IT'S ONLY MAH LAIGS.

I did go through a brief period of worrying that if I had kids they would be embarrased if their friends came round and I was wearing shorts and their dad had skulls and coffins on his legs. I then remembered that no kid really wants any of their friends to see their dad in shorts in the first place and I should be more accomadating from the start.

Having said that, if/when I get anything on my arms I would be willing to spend money on them not being shit, so you know...

Re: Tattoos

I've been thinking about getting the Crass logo on my arm, but I fear I'll suddenly grow dreads and stink of cider.

do any vegans on here have tattoos? I was reading in Vegan Freak that they put animal products in the dyes, what are the alternatives?

I know quite a few vegans who have them, but that's never occurred to me before. I'd be pretty suspicious of putting any man made alternatives to traditional colourants under my skin.

Re: Tattoos

when the docs removed the tumour and a whole bunch of tissue off her back they found that the tatoo ink had stained fuck loads of her lymphatic system.
some of the posters in this thread are going to have multicolour insides.

Ok don't fall off that high horse... I'm not trying to be some kinda fundamentalist! I've just heard they use animal products in tattoo ink, I'd rather not have animal products in my skin really.

Re: Tattoos

some tattooists use vegan ink.

poor dean and his silly tattoos haha.

I wasn't having a go, just making a point. I'm not really a high-horse kind of person! I'd rather not have animal products on my skin either but then I don't want to sacrifice the quality of a tattoo by only using artists who use vegan ink. I think these days almost all ink is synthetic anyway.

Just out of curiosity, the skin cancer wasn't related to the tattooing, was it?

Re: Tattoos

VEGANISM: not nearly as militant as it used to be.

Re: Tattoos

I have this:

It's far from being finished but I only see my tattoo artist like... once a year because he doesn't live in my town and I'm always broke anyway.

More power to me.

yeah, but remember that Vegan Freaks is very US-centric, and also some people on there are fucking nutjobs (e.g. not going to see films that have animals in them as it's exploitation, the fucking wackos). i take a lot of what is posted on there with a pinch of (lo)salt...

"the deadening futility of day-to-day life will be temporarily washed away in a flood of blessed and cleansing torment"

so what do vegans eat anyway?!

Re: Tattoos

oh, and also- does anyone have any current contact info for steve byrne that isn't myspace? i need to talk to him about finishing my arm off...

You can't avoid animal products in our current society anyway. I mean, veganism isn't about being perfect because it's impossible to reach perfection in veganism when you're part of the Western/Occidental/whatever society.
Vegans know they CAN'T be perfect. They're just trying to do their best.
Not all vegans are trying to guilt-trip meat-eaters and it's not their fault those people feel bad because of what meeting one of them makes them feel about themselves. You know what I mean?

Vegan Freak was interesting, even if I can't stand the "self-help" aspect of this book Americans seem to love. I felt like they talked to me as if I was a dumbass.

Re: Tattoos

yeah, i've been vegan for 15+ years. but some of the people on the vegan freaks forum just straight up depress me with their utterly contemptuous and negative attitudes towards pretty much ANYTHING.

Re: Tattoos

I usually can't stand hanging out with vegans because it seems to me they always try to better the world before trying to better themselves. I also have the same problems with the very few sxe people here (I don't drink nor smoke but don't claim edge.) Basically, I made the most antisocial choices you can make when you live where I live, and the very few people like me here are annoying assholes. Oh well, I can't wait to move out.

/rant and sorry for hi-jacking the thread.

Re: Tattoos

the tumour was pretty close to the tatoo and the lymphatic staining did cover the area of the tumour.
however that i bet thats conicidental.
i will have a look through pubmed for any journal articles linking the two.
