Re: Tattoos

er maybe i was wrong

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1769 … d_RVDocSum

a quick search didnt bring up any cohort studies or meta studies but there were a lot of articles reporting single patients developing tumours after tattooing.

the link above is to a review article abstract into tattoos and complications, so infectious disease as well as tumous, i only read the abstract but if you following the elsevier full text link at the right you might be able to read the whole thing (if your are interested.)

dont struggle!

Re: Tattoos

scholar.google.com finds quite a few articles about the photodestabilisation of dyes used in tattoo inks into carcinigenic compounds

SHIT!

Ok don't fall off that high horse... I'm not trying to be some kinda fundamentalist! I've just heard they use animal products in tattoo ink, I'd rather not have animal products in my skin really.

I wasn't having a go, just making a point. I'm not really a high-horse kind of person! I'd rather not have animal products on my skin either but then I don't want to sacrifice the quality of a tattoo by only using artists who use vegan ink. I think these days almost all ink is synthetic anyway.

Sorry yeah I wasn't having a go either! Just wanted to see if there are any vegan alternatives coz I'd rather be as Animal-Free as possible, like Remi said it's impossible to be 100% animal free as we all know.

Yeah I'm not a massive fan of Vegan Freaks, especially the podcast or forum. Think a lot of people are so incredibly hyped up on Veganism and get incredibly irritated by small non-vegan things in everyday life which sometimes I've learnt to get on with .i.e. adverts, attitudes etc. I thought the book was pretty awesome, when I became vegan I still had a few doubts and the book kinda reassured me that it was all good, definitely good to lend out to people considering veganism.

Anyway, back to the Tattoo topic, anyone know of Tattoo artists in the North West area (preferably Preston, Manchester etc) who use synthetic ink and have had successful tattoos? I will research myself!

Is it worth getting a small tattoo just as a taster for a bigger one? I'm sure this is a standard question most tattoo'd dudes get!

Re: Tattoos

You can get animal-free inks easily enough (seem to becoming as common as cruelty included ink) and from my understanding it doesn't compromise the look or longevity of the work. I have some really high colour tattoos done in vegan friendly ink and they look strong, not to mention great!

Re: Tattoos

Backclash time, I'm going to develop a brand of tattoo ink from ground up animal parts, killed specifically for no good damn reason.

Starting on animals, moving onto people. Obviously.

Re: Tattoos

You should make it from ultra cute or ultra rare animals too, think special breed minature ponies or something.

Zombie themed tattoos made from human based inks would be ultimate, I'd be down anyway.

Re: Tattoos

I could base them all on animal named bands...
Narwhal Nectarine.
Manatee Mauve.
Tigers! Turqoise.
etc etc

Egyptian theme tattoo inks with real mummy!

Re: Tattoos

Sort of similar, I've heard of people getting dead loved one's ashes mixed with tattoo ink and tattooed onto them!

Sam, this is the best idea EVER. I would so like to do that when I'll start my zombie-leg. You're making me daydream, someone should use this idea in a movie.

More power to me.

Re: Tattoos

haha.. oh well

Re: Tattoos

Just to clarify my comments on vegan ink, I never suggested it would be poorer quality, just that a lot of the artists I go to/would want to go to might not use it and I wouldn't want to mess with their own specific choice of ink just for my personal preference.

Here's an old old pic of me being tattooed by Neil at Abody in Leicester. Anyone else got pics of tattooing in progress?

Issue 12 of "you can't say no to hope..." funzine all gone, issue 13 soon....

agreed

Re: Tattoos

Dear me. You seem to have "trying not to be a cunt" and "going out of your way to be a twatty cunt" twisted up the wrong way around you pair of bookends. Simple mistake to make, but then you did like the earthcrisis jobbie.....
