Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

i personally dont like it very much, but some people love it to bits. it's nice when it's really cold outside and such.

the francesinha isnt portuguese, it's from porto! you havent tried one if you didnt try it here

well you will be pleased to know i have had one in porto, ultimate comfort food

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

ahah awesome smile

did you like it here ?

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

i did; although walking accross this

http://www.heritage2008.greenlines-institute.org/Gallery_heritage_porto_album/slides/porto%20(7).JPG

was scary; with the trams whizzing accross and the very low fence

my favourite bit of porto was Parque da cidade, on a sunday afternoon

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

totally with you on the bridge, never could walk across it on the upper board, even when you could go by car i didnt like it. not a fan of the metro/tram either.

i love parque da cidade, such a good place to chill. must re-start my jogging sessions

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

so... do i want to spend 15 euros to see mark kozelek solo live ?

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

Can't believe Ghosts of the Great Highway is 10 years old.

Pointless bump really.

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

What do people think of Benji? I kind of love it I think. It's got a very Frank O'Hara vibe to it over Spanish guitar. Couple of dud songs but mostly pretty beautiful.

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

Cheers for the reminder! - i've only heard ben's my friend so far which was hilarious (in concept, and bit more chipper than you would expect)
Really loved the Desertshore/Mark Kozelek album and have high hopes ( the pitchfork review is insanely positive: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/188 … oon-benji/ ) -
hope there is more singing and maybe fewer monologues?

-

Granted a large proportion are live albums but the sheer amount of Mark's output since 1992 is insane
1997-98 and 2002 (when he was forming SKM?) seem to be the only years he has hasn't put out a record

wonderfully miserable bastard
great both times i've seen him solo - but the roadhouse gig on SKM tour (2008?) was terrible - probably one of the most disappointing gigs i've ever been to

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

Hmmm... There is quite a lot of monologues! It's also insanely bleak. Details how two of his relatives have died from being set on fire by putting aerosol cans in fires.

Carissa, Micheline, I watched the film, are all incredibly beautiful songs though.

I don't fully understand the amazing critical response for this album more than others, maybe people just decided it's his time?

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

still need to listen to that desertshores album. caught him live solo, was not very good tbh, quite disappointed. but will give him another chance as SKM next month (i think that's when)

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

ive listened to it a few times and its really good. however, i keep going to play it all but end up repeat playing carissa for half an hour instead.

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

Yeah I've done that. The bit where the echoed vocals come in towards the end are so great.

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

Haven't listened to the new record but just trying Carissa now. Is excellent. The delivery reminds me a little of Josh T Pearson.

I still harbour real resentment towards a friend I lent my double LP of "Ghosts..." to and they left it in the exposed sun, rendering LP1 useless.

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

i'm really into this new record! is anyone doing a vinyl release for this? i'm not really into buying a €20 cd..

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

There's no news about a vinyl version but I presume there will be one....

Just checked the Caldo Verde website and there's a listing for a Christmas Carols record sung by him released in November this year lol: http://www.caldoverderecords.com/

Him singing 'O come all ye faithful'

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

really like the new record.

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

has Kozelek actually managed to up his bleakness?

"My mother is seventy five
One day she won't be here to hear me cry
When the day comes for her to let go
I'll die off like a lemon tree in the snow
When the day comes for her to leave
I won't have the courage to sort through her things
With my sisters and all our memories
I cannot bear all the pain it will bring"

I like how he put "dogs" in the middle which kinda eases you back a bit..

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

why do they not issue the vinyl version at the same time? it fucks me off.

it was the same for among the leaves - i will forget to keep an eye out for it months later and then sells out and goes for stupid prices.

Added: 12-02-2014 03:19:39

does sound better than among the leaves though...

cold beer in my mouth and tears in my eyes

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

iirc there was some issue with the Among the Leaves vinyl because of co-authorship or something, shouldn't be a problem with this i wouldn't imagine

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

finally got to sit down with the new record and i think the response makes sense. that first track is a real attention-grabber and it's a very cohesive starting point on a dude with a pretty serious discography at this point.

don't remember anything about that last covers record (i think i turned it off when it hit a descendents song). everything else he's done recently has been really great though.

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

can't get enough of Benji + the Mark Kozelek & Desertshore album from last year right now...........

Re: Mark Kozelek / RHP / Sun Kil Moon

Anyone know the name of the song about his Mexican builders getting deported and leaving his house wrecked? He played it in London last year and it stuck with me but it isn't very goggleable.
