Re: NFL

Does anyone know if Channel 5 have cancelled their American Football rights?
Have noticed over the past couple of weeks that they are no longer airing the baseball - probably in favour of some crappy quiz stuff - so wondering if they're ending all of their deals.  Can't say I'd be too bothered if the basketball or ice hockey went but for late night stuff the MLB and NFL were usually quite enjoyable.

Re: NFL

Remember the Monarchs song when they went 'five and oh' in their inaugral season...

I think it went something like this:

"The Monarchs, yo, yo, the Monarchs, yo"

Re: NFL

last thing i heard was five definitely aren't doing any studio productions of US sport anymore (so no nat and mike, no jonny and josh) and that would mean they probably aren't going to bother with it at all. fucking travesty.

once i get a laptop i'm probably going to sign up to mlb.tv so i can watch whatever games i want online and in high quality, but it won't be the same without the five team. no roadtrip, no tuxedos.... and NFL-wise, no more nate of the week or the tori you can support. sad times.

settle down

Re: NFL

wouldn't be surprised if bbc picked up the rights seeing as how they now have the superbowl and international series games

i watch it on sky anyway. also, the nfl site has good though brief highlights of all games

Re: NFL

best way to watch NFL is torrent. no adverts = NFL at its best.

No more Mike Carlson?  Shit.  Always thought Nate looked a bit awkward presenting the NFL but JG and JC made the baseball so relaxed and simple to follow.  It was a sport I never thought I'd enjoy but really got quite into it during my Uni years.
It would be a shame for Channel 5 to get rid of it.  You would think there was a big enough audience for the NFL - if not the others - to carry it on, maybe put in a couple more advert breaks.

Might have to consider mlb.tv as well, certainly not going for Setanta or NASN subscriptions.

But then the BBC would have to drop all their sign zone stuff.  Unless they went and filled up BBC3 with it at night...  That would be pretty good.  I wonder if they'll invest in a sports channel once the country has gone digital, they've certainly bought a lot more back recently.

Did not know that about the NFL site, thanks for that.  It's not the same though.

Re: NFL

yeah the nfl site is pretty good if you simply can't find a way to watch the game. there's live play-by-play for every game and the highlight reels are decent. also good for people like me who are following the draft right now.

i will miss mike carlson though.

Re: NFL

Re: NFL

did mike parle express an interest once? possibly even in this thread, or there might have been another where we discussed the merits of nfl fantasy football

Re: NFL

pags, are you up for our fantasy league? we have 15 teams at the mo and an even amount is a lot better.

it was weird enough seeing him in a jets uniform, seeing number 4 in the purple, white and gold would've blown my mind

vick's most likely gonna end up anywhere looking to put in a wildcat package, thing is he's not that great a passer and he was sacked an ungodly amount of times in atlanta so i'm not sure he has great pocket presence. in a wildcat package though he'd be perfect because he's got great feet.

andy, not interested in fantasy football, sorry. just not my thing.

Re: NFL

no probs!

Re: NFL

michael vick has signed for the eagles!

what do you make of that andy? im excited

Re: NFL

i'd be up for fantasy... if it's not too late

i'm an eagles fan and i don't know what to think about vick... but we do need more 'difference makers' with the ball, and well, for what he's costing, it could work out but if it doesn't it's no great loss. as long as they don't disrupt mcnabb's game by putting in too many tweaks and trick plays. the wildcat mainly worked with running backs who were only going to carry the ball, so if vick gets a direct snap and is then a threat to run or throw, it could be dangerous. we'll see....

settle down

Re: NFL

i can not stand the vick signing. it goes against everything the eagles have done in the last 10 years. he doesn't deserve another chance. kevin kolb is the QB of the future, and vick will be a disruption. i hope he is cut ASAP.

we currently have 16 teams in fantasy, so would need 1 more if you joined to make it an even amount.

Re: NFL

holy shit, brett favre is about to sign with the vikes!!!!!

Re: NFL

Long shot. A very long shot!

Is anyone going to the Bengals v Broncos game on 13 Sept (1st game of the season).

I've got tickets for it (my wife is from Colorado so we will be away fans) and am well up for a few beers pre-game. It starts at 1pm - hopefully I'll be in Cincinnati by about 9am. If you are going then lemme know and praps we can sort something out...

Gonna be weird being an away fan with no segregation - hopefully I'll get out alive...

Cheers
Rut (ex of Southampton)

Re: NFL

that is indeed a very long shot!!
