Re: tv shows

I finished The Night Of last night and it does get a bit daft in the final couple of episodes. The female lawyer especially makes some mind-bogglingly stupid decisions. And the whole prison bit never really pays off. Still really enjoyed it.

Exactly my take on it

Yeah agree that it became a little too far-fetched near the end, especially the late stages of the trial (not to spoil!!!); didn't really buy the relationship between Nas & Chandra too much. Also thought the prison plot lines would be explored in more depth, especially re: Freddy and Nas. Still reckon it was fantastic, though. Turturro is well underrated imo lol.

Re: tv shows

Freaks and Geeks just came onto Netflix, so been watching that. If you haven't seen it already thenI really recommend it.

For some reason I keep watching Suits, even though its generally a massive pile of shit. Maybe to fill the gap that The Good Wife left.

Have watched the first three episodes of Designated Survivor. Its fine. Somewhere between Homeland and the West Wing.

Easy now! It's more like somewhere between Quantico and 24. Nowhere close to the classiness of the other two. It's pure trash - but not unenjoyable.

I haven't seen either of those so I have no idea.

But I'm not sure many people would agree that Homeland was classy..

Re: tv shows

Weirdly i just rewatched all of Freaks and Geeks. It is really good.

I loved the first episode of Westworld, looking forward to tonight's episode.

Re: tv shows

Westworld has been decent, bit worried it's going to go absolutely nowhere though and be Lost 2.0.

Ha, fair enough - I thought Homeland was better made/acted than the average. But I am watching the Fox TV version of Lethal Weapon so my bar is fucking low.

24 is good sick day fodder.

Re: tv shows

haha oh man, I've seen ads for that Lethal Weapon and that was enough for me. You are of strong constitution.

Re: tv shows

Late to the party but I've been watching It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and love it. I'm seven seasons in and it's the most I've laughed at a comedy in years.

Re: tv shows

I love Philadelphia so so much. Whenever I recommend it to someone I kind of say the first series may come across as a bit bro-comedy, but it evolves in to SUCH an amazing thing. I don't think there's anything else that makes me laugh as much.

Re: tv shows

anyone watched goliath? it's an 8 part show on amazon which is more or less an ott courtroom drama. very fun, billy bob thornton is great and it's one of those kind of shows which while not being outstanding quality is entertaining and compelling enough to make you want to keep moving on to the next episode. watched it over the course of a week and really enjoyed it.

what's coming up next year or returning that looks good? i'm really looking forward to season 2 of the expanse.

ed: also yeah, love always sunny. definitely improves as it goes on (and especially when devito joins the cast).

Re: tv shows

I too love Always Sunny, there are a few dud episodes, but the one where Dee and Dennis become serial killers, and the one where they buy the boat are incredible. I think it has a bit of a reputation as being very bro and at first I found it a bit like that and didn't really get into it, but it's actually just them taking an issue and taking to the extremes every week. Actually much more clever than it's given credit for I think.

I'm actually really enjoying Westworld, last night's episode was great. Anthony Hopkins is so good and it's moving at a fast pace.

Best thing on TV at the moment is Atlanta which is spectacularly good.

Been keeping up with The Missing but there are so many plot-holes i'm finding it a bit stupid.

Re: tv shows

Finally got round to watching Silicon Valley and really liked it. It is kind of flat, and series 3 was showing the strain (the frequency of joke callbacks from earlier episodes being an indicator of diminishing returns) but still, really liked the first 2 series.

Also got round to Borgen and am loving it. Watching series 2 currently.

Re: tv shows

westworld really picked up in the last few episodes. glad it didn't go too far down the road of pure mystery. really enjoying it.

how shit is this season of walking dead? thought it had really picked back up last season and the cross over of the last episode of that one / first episode of this one. since then it has just been dull. getting game of thrones syndrome jumping around between too many characters and introducing new ones no one cares about... alongside fringe characters no one cared about before.

I am enjoying the Missing, but do agree with you smile

Also think that's a good characterization of Philadelphia (thinking of episodes like 'Gun Fever Too: Still Hot'). It's so much cleverer & more subtle than its given credit for. And when you go back for a second runthrough and notice how early they start laying the groundwork for some of the character traits that they then dedicate whole later episodes/storylines too.

Yeah or the one with the Paddy's Dollars, that's pretty on the nose about the financial crisis, same with the one where Frank takes over his old company again:

"What do we make?"
"We make money"
"Yeah but what do we actually create?"
"We create wealth"

Yeah I got worried that Westworld would turn into Lost 2.0 and just spin it's wheels for ages, but it's really picked up the pace and is genuinely really enjoyable and interesting. I don't think i've actually seen the film its based on though hmm

Re: tv shows

Re: tv shows

I'm quite interested by Sneaky Pete. Although it does mean I have to subscribe to Amazon Prime. It comes out today and has really good reviews...

Have you watched Atlanta? I think it's all on Now TV and it's incredible.

Hope you feel ok mate.

1,298

Re: tv shows

sneaky pete sounds interesting - created by bryan cranston says imdb. heard nothing but good about atlanta, should definitely check that out yeah.

finally got round to watching episode one of the new series of always sunny... batshit crazy so nothing has changed there.

not sure if you've mentioned it, as i dip in and out of this thread, but Man in the High Castle is a solid shout. 1st series is solid, but series 2 really picks up.

also, Trapped would be a good shout if you enjoy The Bridge. it has a similar scando murder mystery vibe.

hope the op goes well dude :*

...tis all in peeces, all cohaerence gone...

Re: tv shows

There are a TONNE of really excellent (single or at least first season) shows on Netflix at the moment:

Cannabis (French/Spanish/North African show - two of the scariest bad guys I've seen in anything for ages - excellent overall story arc)
Occupied (brilliant, topical - Russians 'invade' Norway, caused political upset irl)
The Break (Midsummer Murders meets Twin Peaks and minor league football in Belgium)
Nobel (another Norwegian show, sort of Jason Bourne meets Homeland - liked it)
