Topic: Cro-Mags

There seems to be a fairly widespread dislike of this band on CZ. I can't understand why a lot of hardcore fans really hate them. I guess they're one of those bands that you either love or hate. Before The Quarrel is a total rager for me. Let's discuss the Cro-Mags.

Top 3 songs:
Show You No Mercy
Death Camps
Malfunction

Re: Cro-Mags

Show You No Mercy, definitely a rager, the demo version especially. I'm not sure if I can choose 3 favourites, but World Peace would probably be one of them

AOQ has been on fairly heavy rotation lately. Would definitely go see the Cro Mags Jam if they come over

Re: Cro-Mags

Also, I heard John Joseph was coming over to do his spoken word stuff, would be interested in checking that out. I haven't read his book yet but Conor and Paul assure me it's great

There's a date in Nottingham, I think it's Saturday 1st August at the Chameleon Cafe.

As for Cro Mags, I only ever got into Age Of Quarrel, which is obviously a good hardcore record.

Yeah, I heard that too ... there's mp3s floating around of the spoken word version of his book but I've never got around to checking them out.

Thanks. If anyone knows the other dates, post em up.

Re: Cro-Mags

The John Joseph mp3's are awesome. I should get around to picking up the book really. I can upload them if needed.

Re: Cro-Mags

Age of Quarrel and the demos are totally classic. I can't understand why anyone who doesn't mind a bit of rock/metal in their hardcore wouldn't like it. Seem to be band that some people like to make point of not liking.

I quite enjoy Alpha Omega, and Best Wishes is good in places and awful in others, but I've heard people rave about both records recently, I don't get that at all.

Re: Cro-Mags

my top 3 songs:

1.  Apocalypse Now
2.  Life of My Own
3.  Seekers of the Truth

would like to hear the JJ Mp3s, FVK were good 1st time round, second not so much.

Re: Cro-Mags

Cro-Mags were awesome

Re: Cro-Mags

Hard Times
We Gotta Know
Malfunction

i've probably listened to Alpha Omega more than any of their proper records in the last few years - first 'ironically', but now I've grown to love it. It's a terrible Cro-Mags record, but as a stupid rock record, it's brilliant.

You fill me with inertia ...

Re: Cro-Mags

We Gotta Know is an awesome tune. I love the video.

Major Wants : To The Point "mentally checked out' 7"
the Death Dust Extractor 12" & Crisis 7"s at punk prices...
and I do a weird record label http://tadpolerecords.blogspot.co.uk/

Re: Cro-Mags

Harvey is a BJJ purple belt under Renzo Gracie so they get a thumbs up from me! wink

Re: Cro-Mags

The Other Side of Madness (Revenge)
Apocalypse Now
Malfunction

I love Alpha Omega! Chunky metallic riffs, earth-shatteringly heavy breakdowns, nonsensical lyrics and plenty of "ohhh yeeeaaaarrrggh"s. Couldn't ask for much more 'tbh'.

Re: Cro-Mags

The spoken word book is amazing, best place to listen to it is in a van on tour for maximum LOLZ.

Re: Cro-Mags

I've only heard AOQ but I love it, great record.

"Before I give my own review of this book I just want to say that I am a huge harry potter fan, to the extent that I actually have a deathly hallows tattoo on my bottom. I'm also quite ill right now, but I fought against my horrid cold to read this book. "

Mate, exactly. The only other minor improvement would be changing every lyric in every song to "oh yeauuuurrggh" (whilst leaving the song titles unchanged). I'd 'moosh' doubly hard.

Re: Cro-Mags

Here's a link to the demo for those who haven't heard it (well it's the Before The Quarrel CD, which is the demo just with the track order changed a bit): http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?titvn0ibndn

So much better than AOQ.

Anyone know where to get the book here in the UK? I've searched high and low and still kicking myself for not picking up a copy in Berlin last year.

GOLDEN CABINET gig collective
GO FUCK YOURSELF zine
DIRTY APPARATUS record label

Re: Cro-Mags

I like tracks by them. Don't think any of their records are that hot right the way through though.

Re: Cro-Mags

Favourite 3 songs...

1. Death Camps
2. Show You No Mercy
3. Hard Times

Re: Cro-Mags

One of my favourite bands. Age of Quarrel and Best Wishes are both masterpieces, and Alpha Omega isn't far behind. Even fucking 'Revenge' has some cracking tunes on it, hahaha.

Revenge is a great record. Cheesy as hell but 110% moshworthy.
