But the riff that was made from the base was the heavy, slowly, darkness, and bad feelings.

Yeah, that was the Process gig at the Poison Club. A lot of funny shit went on there.

was that the one with those polish 'punk' dickheads, with it kicking off. I remember hitting one with a chair leg repeatedly until he let go of Clint I think it was. I seem to recollect you landing a good punch on one 'em

i love the "do you see how hard im moshing ? do not mess with me!" faces some dude around my town makes whenever someone pushes him in the pit, but it's more of a visual thing

SKilly Dog Box in M`boro in the 90`s - total noise feedback fuckery. Their "singer" local legend `morbid` was being asked by the crowd to stop playing if they bought him a pint. We needn`t have worried as the barman turned the sound system off anyway mid-set.

Stalingrad playing bristol anytime - Richs angry persona on stage failing to be threatening everytime and people just picking him up or jumping on him. At a similar gig our mate dickie who was abotu 14 stone getting chucked across a table of drinks.

Me stage-diving at Snuff in london sometime in the early 90`s and the band asking "is he dead" after the song as i managed to clear the 1st 5 rows and land on the floor of the Forum.

No mention of the immortal "who smokes the reefer?"...?

Re: Funniest thing you've seen at a gig....

The singer from Oi Polloi making a standard issue anti-capitalism speech at trashfest before setting fire to a mcdonalds cup. In his head the cup went up like a firework and provided the perfect intro to the song, in reality the mcdonald's cup wasn't flammable so he stood there with a lighter for the best part of a minute trying to singe it and failed miserably.

That was funny as fuck. Also, the Army Of Flying Robots set at the same Trashfest with the mattress gymnastics was tons of fun.

This was in Grimsby and just as fantastic as it sounds. Him scrambling about on the floor in a packed room trying to find his hair extensions.

There was another time where a similar style band of that time were all in the toilets before they played blow drying their hair under the hand dryers while practising their screaming and all straightening their hair. Incredible to see, especially in that scummy venue.

a similar hilarious hair-metalcore story: penknifelovelife played josephs well, and the guitarist was spinning his guitar around, and throwing himself around like a goon, and hit the bassist in the face with his headstock. bassist collapsed off the front of stage into the crowd in a pool blood and got dragged off to the toilet and then taken off to hospital. apparently his eyesocket got shattered. the look on everyone's faces was priceless.

This reminds me of a gig I went to at the Common Place once where this band were playing (I think) on a very weird bill with Bring Me the Horizon, Valhalla Pacifists and Duck Stab. The place was full of horrible little arrogant 16 year old myspace wankers, who got more and more paralytic as the night went on. Not sure I've seen as much vomit in one place before, and it was even more surreal as I'd stopped drinking for a bit at the time.

A really bad noise gig at the Fenton, which was saved by an absolutely riotous and chaotic Bongoleeros set at the end of the night, but kicked off in tragic style by a chap who called himself Betty. He travelled up from London on the invitation of Monopolka who was also playing that night, but neglected to check with the promoter if it was alright. It was a Termite Club gig, so Mike Dando was running it and allowed him to play on the condition that it wouldn't be a very long set. When he came to play there was literally me, Steve Warwick, Paul Steere, the Monopolka guy and Mike Dando in the room, and all he did was plug a flimsy looking homebuilt mic into a couple of pedals and dangled it infront of an amp for 20 seconds until it fell apart much to his despair. He turned the amp off and that was that, leaving Dando to declare "I know I said to keep it short, but that was ridiculous!!!". Later on in the night a guy from LA called DOG played who was on date 2 of his 2 date European tour (Antwerp and Leeds), and whose set involved shoving what looked like a pound shop microphone into a green metal tube, thus producing no sound at all - I thought I was going mental.

There was a great Spin Spin the Dogs gig a few years back when they opened for Afrirampo in London, and some random homeless looking nutcase just got up onstage played his flute with them for a couple of songs. It was pretty next level.

Also that DOG guy would have no sound and then alternated between spending 5 very long minutes checking that all of his cables were working, picking up a breezeblock and smashing it down on his broken contact mic, and repeating this process for what seemed like forever!!!

AND!

I can't believe we forgot to mention YORKSHIRE BONE.
this was 2 guys, one wearing a confusion is sex t shirt and bashing a guitar with a tinnie (probably nourishment!) and doing some kinda "blues" whilst the singer proclaimed

'i've got the whisky...
WHO'S
GOT
THE
SMACK
!
!
!
!"

Me and Luke also once shared a bill with someone who looked like the guy from the Nationwide "who gives you extra" ad, playing noise.
He had a naked lawnmower man style video projection of him NAKED, SPINNING AROUND behind him whilst he sang lines such as

"WE'RE ALL SWIMMING IN THE SAME FUCKING TOILET"

"YOU WANT TO TALK TO ME ABOUT.......ALIENATION????!"

and the best is still

'MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL.........
.........

I know the feeling. At the Stupids, HardOns, Scream, Fireparty gig in Camden 88 - I decided to stage dive. Did a belly flop on the floor after missing people. It was the gig that the Stupids official video was filmed. Luckily you can't see me. Went to work on Monday, working on building sites at the time, talk about pain as my whole chest/stomach was black and blue.

Ha ha....yeah I fell over whilst playing at the Ropewalk demolishing a table full of beers....or the one when Martiin Einon was shouting 'more fighting in Hardcore' at Leccy and all the tables he was stood on collapsed and Jason got punched in the face by a Hells angel - I could go on....Bristol you gotta love it!

....my personal favourite has to be when the Horror played one of the 1in12 fests and Glyn from Belfast who'd been snorting poppers and his mate got naked in the pit and started swinging each other round in the air giving everyone a good view of their hairy bollocks....Andy's classic retort was 'You see, this is the fundamental difference between the Celtic and Anglo saxon races' ...you couldn't make it up!

Re: Funniest thing you've seen at a gig....

another time we went to a gig, in a place called Crossmaglen, which was about 30 miles from my house. me and a mate went on bikes, got drunk and peddled the whole way home. got lost, so it took us about 4 hours or more to get home.
while at the gig, there were about 5 of us sitting on a pile of coats supping away. some girl asks did we see such and such, we all said no. then we heard a noise from under the coats - it was the guy she was looking for and we had been sitting on him for the last half hour - luckily he had passed out and didn't feel us sitting on him.

would that have been Chris Black? him and Glyn were forever dropping their trousers and swinging from side to side. Hell, I was talking to Chris in the cafe or the office at Giros at one of the fests. Turned my head for two seconds and when I turned around again his trousers were around his ankles and he had a big cheeky grin on his face. fuck, i love Chris.

Re: Funniest thing you've seen at a gig....

No for once it wasn't - I had him and Glyn come up to me once at the Warzone stark bollock naked - Glyn's like 'look Russ I'm naked'
I'm like 'yeah I know' - then they went and sat in the cafe but everyone ignored them ha ha!

Especially as the Shoes gig was for a Leukemia benefit.

I remember the last Soon The Darkness show being hilarious. Electrowerkz with some hair metal band. It was a slimelight night so there were loads of old fat people there in full fetish get up. We ended up getting bumped to headline which involved cages of Suicide Girls on stage. 30 seconds in, Marcus has decked out Tim, gets booted out by security and Tobs is trying to climb into a dancers cage..... fucking brilliant night.

They usually have a tiny wee cocktail stick sized American Flag. That seldom lights properly either. I've seen up to seven punks stood holding lighters aloft attempting to get the little bastards to catch.

I actually went to this, couldn't believe you were playing there, although as memory serves the fetish crowd seemed to enjoy your set.

Can you really be sure of the goddamn time of day?
