This is the worst thing i've ever seen/heard

Re: Good Hip-hop???

UK wise, Giggs.

US: Three Six Mafia, Jadakiss, Cash Money Records, Ruff Ryders, old No Limit. RA The Rugged Man.

generally much prefer 'thug shit' to backpack...

Re: Good Hip-hop???

Until this morning I hadn't listened to Mc Solaar in about seven years. What the fuck, I forgot how fucking incredible French hip hop could be. A total sin to have neglected this for so long...

Re: Good Hip-hop???

I feel the need to add Darc Mind to this discussion...which fills the gap perfectly between Black Moon and Company Flow.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

Not new, but the RZA soundtrack for Ghost Dog that was released in japan (not the shitty one we had here) still gets me well wet.

Kool Kieth - hit and miss but the hit is HIT - Dr Octagon, Dr Doom.........

GZA - Liquid Swords.  Still the best hip hop album ever I reckon.

EL-P - I reckon both his albums are mint, 1st on is better though.

Mr Gerbik, Half-shark, half-man, skin like an alligator.  Carrying a dead walrus. Check it.

Random Impulse has to be one of my favorite UK guys at the moment. Doing something a little different to the typical Grime balls.

The Herione and Final Goodbye are bloody fantastic.

Two of my recent favourite quotes from Wiley's twitter:

"when i am 40 odd and im running out of steam im gonna be a dj like rodigan but im gonna play speed garage"

"oi puff daddy come to england holla at me bring the doe and i will run tings realtalk if you see this tweet holla"

"Before I give my own review of this book I just want to say that I am a huge harry potter fan, to the extent that I actually have a deathly hallows tattoo on my bottom. I'm also quite ill right now, but I fought against my horrid cold to read this book. "

Re: Good Hip-hop???

I may not know much about hip-hop but half the recommendations on here are from the 90s... I think the original poster was looking for more recent stuff.

My two cents, check out 'Lil John and the East Side Boys.  Almost as angry as MOP!  Get Crunk!

Also kinda super-gay but I liked that Gnarls Barkley album.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

well, good hip-hop releases from last year

Orphans of Cush - White Noize http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Age5KfwJpRI Kyza on complete form on the whole album
Jyager - Encrypted Scriptures http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-J7oktRaFk
YnR Productions - Feeding Time at the Zoo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IARLIK4nemI - (Double D Dagger - The Daggers. best tune of the year)
J Dilla - Jay Stay Paid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLtbr99DfHk
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jP1PliAiuc

Chester P's mixtape was sick. downloaded but not listened to the new Scorzayzee one yet. apparently there are some autotune songs on there which is...worrying. anyone see the Shane Meadows film with him in?

Anyone hear that El Michels Affair album? a soul/funk band who do Wu Tang covers. here's C.R.E.A.M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhDnWLfm07o
(el michels affair also released this sick soul album last year under the name lee fields & the expressions. so good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epu97rNb9F8)

Le Donk & ScorZayZee?

"calm down Deirdre Barlow"... Good stuff, I liked it anyway.

Shouting "Slap yer ass", "GET UP!" and "YEEAAAH!" isn't angry really, is it?

It is moronic shit.

Please DON'T check out this bollocks. It is dying a very fast and silent death, and the faster it is consigned to the depths of musical history the better.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

Paint House Gang: fair point but then generally hip hop today is nowhere near as good as the best stuff from the 90s....

for recent stuff,

Marco Polo And Torae - Double Barrel from last year was pretty dope

Clipse - hell hath no fury (which has already been mentioned here) is one of the best hip hop albums i've heard in the last few years. perfect coke dealer rap. want to hear the new album but read mixed reviews of it....

checked out Monkey Barz and enjoyed it

was listening to 'the infamous' the other day and it struck me how negative and bleak that album is the whole way through. the only song thats not totally dark sounding is the one with Q-tip on and even thats called 'drink away the pain'! anyone have any recommendations for hip hop records which are similarly dark, negative and bleak sounding?

Yeah "The infamous" is amazing, check out their later album "Hell on earth" also great lp.Similar stuff...hm,try Cannibal ox-The cold vein, its like 2000's version of "The Infamous" haha, also very dark and great production provided by El-P,i can think of these:

Gravediggaz-6 feet deep
GZA-Liquid swords
Killah priest-Heavy mental
Heltah skeltah-Noctural
Leak bros-Waterworld
Cage-Movies for the blind

Re: Good Hip-hop???

yeah i have all those albums, except the heltah skeltah one. maybe i should have been more specific, i was wondering if there are any hip hop albums with a really negative, bleak atmosphere which are totally depressing to listen to. in contrast 'liquid swords' makes me feel like i am bulletproof and cool as fuck.

of those albums i think waterworld is the most depressing, which makes sense since cage was a suicidal PCP head when he made it... record sounds pretty desperate and even sad at points imo.
