Non-phixion's 'the future is now' is my favourite hip hop record of the noughties followed closely by Mr Lif's 'I phantom'.

No way, Lif was far more devastating on Enter the Colossus and even Emergency Rations.

Saw Lif a couple of times, in 2002 and 2006. The one in 2002 with El-P and RDJ2 at Manchester was one of the best hip hop shows I've ever been to.

Aye, that tour with el-p and rj was the baws.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

Company Flow (original line up) are playing this two day Portishead ATP next year! MF Doom's playing also but that's not as exciting.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

just started listening to Roc Marciano..... seems like a good modern counterpart to mid 90s grimey east coast hip hop, good flows with thugged out lyrics and murky production....

listening to Freddie Gibbs too, he's pretty good and thugged out as well

Black Milks album was particularly good also

wanna hear the Cold World collab song with Sean Price

I was at that in 2002! It was great! Unfortunately it was running late and there was no way I was leaving so I ended up sleeping in Piccadilly station that night, not a lot of fun but completely worth it.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

I liked Royce Da 5'9-Street hop album alot.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

I haven't been to a hip hop show for ages, like. I think Atmosphere/Brother Ali in Liverpool in 2008 was the last one I went to. That was an awesome way to spend a Sunday night. I even went into work on the Monday in a good mood and trust me, that doesn't happen very often.

Don't you ever try to rock my house-I'm a real cool cat Y' know what I'm sayin' Micky Mouse.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

cleaning some stuff out my room today came across capital punishment, naturally had to give it a spin. forgot how insanely good it was. truely classic shit

future events such as these will affect you in the future.

Also I recommend the Big KRIT album and the new Rick Ross mixtape on datpiff.com

Re: Good Hip-hop???

i've been trying to search for decent french hip hop recently.. came across IAM and their album L'ecole du Micro d'argent... really into it.
any body know anything else that's worth trying? listened to a bit of Disiz La Peste - thought he pretty hit and miss. Poisson Rouge is a good song though.

otherwise, i cant believe Top Choice Clique - why are they so underrated? Peace of Mind is up there as one of my most played hip hop tracks - it's swell

Re: Good Hip-hop???

I thought that Jon Connor stuff would be a bit novelty, with the speed and  that, but he's got a great flow. Really enjoyed it. Describing himself as the People's Rapper makes me associate him with the Post Office.

Ha ha. Yeah he's got a great flow... ridiculous clarity.

Anything good I should check out? I've heard that the new Diddy album isn't shit and is actually quite good... can't be right surely.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

I never give It Was Written enough credit but its actually pretty dyno, minus some dodgy prod/hooks and that 'I Gave You Power' track which doesn't do it for me. The Message is legit near-ILLmatic standards. And the first verse on Watch Dem N is heavy dynamite too. This album has definitely been heavily underrated by me for ages.

Which reminds me of this, heavy dynamite:

Re: Good Hip-hop???

The Wire Tapper had Lushlife on this month, now I can´t stop listening to Plateau Vision. It´s got a J Dilla production feel to it, smooth and lush (sorry) with some nice glithcy/syncopated parts too, intercut with some quite surreal samples.. Some of it´s quite poppy, yet works so well.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

Can anyone recommend me something like when DJ Format and Abdominal do stuff together?

I'd rather haemorrhage my own head into a cesspit of gimps.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

I feel bad that all this faux-outrage about Kendrick Lamar's verse has meant that nobody has focussed on how good Jay Electronica's verse on Control is because he kills it. That guy needs to release an LP soon.

Re: Good Hip-hop???

Yes, he is hyped to all hell by Vice and yes he sounds like Ghostface but I'll be damned if Action Bronson isn't the best thing to happen to hip hop in the last few years.
I'd say about 80% of his beats are great, he kills pretty much everything he spits on and overall, he just seems like a good dude.
I'm just gutted I only seem to find out about his gigs the day after they happen.
