Yeah first one was my favourite record of this ilk of the past few years. There's a touch too much falsetto on this one for my liking, if I had to make a criticism, but it's still pretty great.

oh man the vocals almost kill this for me. what was he thinking?

Yeah the first half of the record is definitely marred by this hmm But then around 'Things in My Head' it calms down. Definitely a better second half but I completely sympathise with your pov!

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

heh, i didn't make it to the second half yet, i was in shock. will flip it!

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

Yeah there's almost none of that stuff on the second side!

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

i know Andy's just started a thread on them but OVLOV deserve a mention in this thread too - http://ovlov.bandcamp.com/

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

whatfunlifewas are pretty decent shoegaze stuff. recommended by Kowloon Walled City. those folk have good taste - http://whatfunlifewas.bandcamp.com/

also, it wins for having song titles like "Ritual Desecration" and "Unyielding Abyssic Hatespawn"

Checking them out just because they're named after a Bedhead album!

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

i can't wait for the new pure bathing culture lp. totally loved this track from their ep last year.

Anyone else listened to Skyer by Postiljonen? It's a little bit dull in an M83/Lost In Translation soundtrack way but it's really nice to listen to on a Sunday evening. This is probably my favourite song on the album:

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

ooh that's nice.

new washed out is pretty great too. i like that at the start of the second song it sounds like a broken ice cream van that is many miles away.

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

Yeah I love the new Washed Out record. The fourth song called Weightless in particular.

Also back on a big Grouper kick:

Sorry for the video spam hmm

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

The Bunyip Moon. Aquarius Records album of the month. They're never ever wrong. they babble about Loop/Flying Nun/Slumberland/Crystal Stilts - "damn near perfect, warm and fuzzy, noisy and dreamy, the production is bizarre, but bizarrely perfect, it's druggy and psychedelic, and seriously heavy, twisted and experimental, laced with loops and bizarre effects, for every bit of distorto crunch, there's some super melodic jangle, more often then not, the two mashed together, there are long stretches of brooding moodiness, extended hypno-rock epics, short bursts of furious noise pop, and sprawling near-Godspeed slow builds, and even some gloomy almost new wave"

Australian as well. that country seems to be on fire at the moment.

Vaadat Charigim. shoegaze/MBV/Ride worship. apparently singing in Hebrew works for this kind of sound https://soundcloud.com/vaadat-charigim/odisea

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

Apologies for the self-promotion, but I play in a band called Night Flowers that people reading this thread might dig. We kinda float between indie-pop and more shoegaze-y dreamy type stuff. 4 new tracks on the way and recorded, but for now our first two tracks can be streamed/downloaded for free below..

So looks like Slowdive are reforming....

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

Is it possible to amass emotion about Slowdive, can you get 'enthusiastic' about them, doesn't that defeat the point?

Same applies to Codeine.

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

You just stick on your favourite pair of shoes and sway, head down, a little more enthusiastically

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

Sorry for the spam, but Night Flowers have posted up two tracks from our forthcoming EP: 'Neverlands' and 'Embers'. Some people posting in this thread might be into it..

Sounding good - look forward to hearing the rest of the EP.

Re: lets talk about shoegaze/dream pop

blundered into this on spotify this evening, well worth a go:

stoned, carefree, like early real estate / pure ecstasy / random lofi band from 3 years ago that made 1 good song.

came out of nowhere this band.
