Re: Noise Rock

Wolfbait are incredible. describe themselves as "kraut violence". slow, churning, repetitive, noisey Swans-esque stuff. killer stuff - http://artforblind.bandcamp.com/album/w-lfbait

Agreed, looking forward to seeing them next week

Re: Noise Rock

Everyone needs to get into Wolfbait right now. Best band in Dublin.

Re: Noise Rock

Another Irish band to go with Wolfbait...

Siorai Geimhreadh
Really noisy and dirgey stuff, from Cork

Re: Noise Rock

Cheers for the kind words and yeah Siorai Geimhreadh are indeed worth checking out too. Hopefully we'll be doing something together in the not too distant future.

Re: Noise Rock

Didn't know you were in them. I take back everything I've said :-)

Re: Noise Rock

A friends showed me this band recently. My curiosity piqued when I saw the "kraut violence" tag, definitely one of the best rec's I've gotten recently.

Big yes!
Would have pegged them as stoner stuff but never mind.
They've been going years, played rarely when I was in Bristol but always ruled.
Drummer was in The Heads.
One time they set up in a weird corner of a venue and played straight after the opener finished, then the final band started when BN had ended. cool.
I have a couple of their LPs in the distro

Re: Noise Rock

i'm not sure i really know what noise rock is when i read through this thread. it seemed appropriate for big naturals. i'll take an LP off you anyway, heard that good throb seven is about too so i'll drop you an email. didn't know the drummer was in the heads. that's cool. would like to see em sometime!

Re: Noise Rock

wicked cheers

Re: Noise Rock

That Big Naturals record is brilliant.

Re: Noise Rock

Guerilla Toss on Feeding Tube (and soon Tzadik) are pretty good

Re: Noise Rock

Yeah! Another vote for Big Naturals! They're rad!
Do Divorce count as noise-rock? I'd say so.. they're pretty stellar GNNNNN

Re: Noise Rock

Did I miss it or have FRIEND COLLECTOR been mentioned?
Ex The New Flesh who were pretty good.

Also..if anyone missed the Body Cop tape on Fan death, you should probably check that out

Re: Noise Rock

yeah, i like that Body Cop tape a lot.

agonized female vocals + noisy guitar + repetitive pummeling percussion

(my first thought was to compare them to Swans but tbh they arent THAT similar)

theres some live stuff on youtube for anyone curious, i think they are broken up now though

i am a sick man... i am an spiteful man. i am an unattractive man. i believe my liver is diseased.

Re: Noise Rock

Yeah, there's definitely more to them than just being a Swans ripoff. And they are indeed broken up.

Listened to White Suns on the commute this morning. great band.

Re: Noise Rock

The GENTLEMAN tape is cool, although as much influenced by dirgey stuff like Kilslug as any noise rock. I think they're Aussie.

Re: Noise Rock

need more obscure 90s recommendations. been listening to a fair bit of Distorted Pony and Glazed Baby. y'know, gems that didn't come out on Am Rep/Trance Syndicate etc

Re: Noise Rock

Spitters, from New York, circa early 90s. Think the album is called "Sun To SUN" or something like that. Like a slightly more alt rock version of early Swans.

Also, have you ever heard Jackbeast Ewan? The old Dublin band? Immense Am Rep type stuff.

Re: Noise Rock

grand. i'll fire up soulseek this evening.

heard the name Jackbeast but haven't heard them. i'll make sure i do.

i wonder if there was ever kind of obscure euro or south american stuff. like with thrash or punk or whatever.
