Re: new emo bands

I like Street Smart Cyclist a lot, and definitely liked Snowing, but was hoping it would be a little *more* than it is. They were supposed to do a split with Grown Ups but apparently it all fell through, don't know what that's about. Hopefully they will do something new and a little bit *more*. Either way I'm sure I'll like it.

I'd not given Boys and Sex much of a listen, I thought they were ok, and I'll definitely be keeping my ear to the ground about them, and would put them on if they were touring. Those songs aren't totally what I'm into though.

Just been listening to Juvenescent Beat!'s MySpace. That first song was totally pop-tastic, the others a bit more rock and I'm less into them. Will try to pick up the LP at some point, though.

Re: new emo bands

'boys and sex' is the worst fucking band name i've ever heard

settle down

Re: new emo bands

I think Snowing is pretty gr9. Their best song is easily "I Think We're In Minsk" from their Tour Tape. Really, really good song.

Also I shudder to think that I have a folder on my computer called Boys & Sex.

Re: new emo bands

I found an old EP by Straight No Chaser which doesnt seem to be as awesome as the 7" review makes out. Like someone else said, it's quite techy. The good bits remind me of the Mock Heroic, but there are some pretty boring bits too. Maybe they changed direction or something. Singer has a good voice that occasionally veers into Orchid vibes. I need to hear more before I make up my mind. I am however, bad at first impressions (see my ill-judged comments on Antioch Arrow and Makara for evidence)

Re: new emo bands

i was listening to the new ulisses lima right now, it's pretty good! kind of sounds like something that could have come out of the midwest at points even, very emo

i've heard worse, but it's a dumb name for an 'emo' band. goddamn twiddly oversexedmo.

Re: new emo bands

There's a string of Pennsylvania bands with boy in the title, boys and sex, boy problems and boyfriends, I think they are all connected.

Re: new emo bands

I really amn't a fan of Snowing, is it the same vocalist as SSC? Because it sounds like something's gone weird.

have you a bet that every post you make mentions fest?

They sponsor me!

But no, I do mention it a lot, but I probably saw about a third of all the bands I saw last year there. Plus I suppose it just means you guys talk about Fest bands a lot. tongue

Yes, it's Jon Geeting. He kept leaving SSC, hence them breaking up, but apparently seems to be fairly committed to Snowing.

Re: new emo bands

john galm is/was the snowing/street smart cyclist vocalist. i think jon geeting was the vocalist of ssc for a while after john galm left. that's my very loose knowledge of the ssc history anyway.

Re: new emo bands

I stand corrected!

Re: new emo bands

But the upshot is it's the same guy? I like his voice so very much less for Snowing, it's odd.

Re: new emo bands

i have an idea, lets talk about good new emo bands again!

Re: new emo bands

sorry andy, one more post about philly bands that aren't really emo and then i promise i'm done

http://www.myspace.com/growingpainsdude

members of hightide hotel, tigers jaw, snowing and um, braindead. they sound like far. many of you will probably know this to be a bad thing. unfortunately i don't know any better and thus am kind of digging it.

Re: new emo bands

the philly scene is blowing up for the past couple years.

1994! is about the only band i can really get into, everything else just reminds me of genetically engineered kinsella projects.

master emo distro/zine failure, forever in debt thanks to you assholes; nothing left to do but start a republic of freedom fighters cover band.

Re: new emo bands

1994! is too mathy for me. otherwise, you are on the money. it was kind of nice for a band or two, it wore thin incredibly quickly though.

Re: new emo bands

too many bands pop up over night and die the next morning. it's hard following a lot of the quality ones.

only recent one i got really into.

This is not bad. Good vocals. Kinda generic though.

Mowgli is way better than most of the Snowing-esque stuff that's about at the moment.

Retention colours are the only true colours.
