Re: BRIGHTON GIGS

DUDEFEST II

Sunday 6th June 2010, DOORS AT 5PM. BANDS FROM 6PM-11PM. MINIMUM £5 DONATION.

BANDS/BBQ/BEER PONG/RECORD FAIR/ZINE FAIR/DJS

BRILLIANT COLORS (San Francisco, Slumberland Records/Captured Tracks) - www.myspace.com/brilliantcolorssanfrancisco
Incredible punk rock from all-girl San Fran trio. Indebted equally to C86 & KBD. Shop Assistants & Chin Chin fans stand up!

LOVVERS (Nottingham, Wichita Records) - www.myspace.com/letscommunicate
Garage punk from Nottingham. Think The Barracudas and The Wipers. Last show in Brighton was a sweaty sold-out affair!

PRIZE PETS (Nottingham, Sex Is Disgusting Records) - www.myspace.com/prizepets
Nottingham-dwelling freaks recalling everything from The Fall to Devo to Flipper. Debut 7" out now on Sex Is Disgusting!

LA LA VASQUEZ (London, Captured Tracks/M'Lady's Records) - www.myspace.com/lalavasquezband
London-based but Brighton-born, La La Vasquez play Messthetics-ready post-punk/garage with a vicious edge.

THE STICKS (Brighton, Upset The Rhythm) - www.myspace.com/thsticks
Brightonian garage primates. True gentleman in the flesh, feral whippersnappers onstage. Garage punk meltdown.

COLD PUMAS (Brighton, Upset The Rhythm) - www.myspace.com/coldpumas
Experimental psychedelic rock indebted to everyone from Can and Neu through to Liars and Abe Vigoda. Great stuff!

Vegan food, record stalls (Edgeworld Records, Sex Is Disgusting, Savoury Days & more), zine stalls (many zines being made specifically for the show!), people playing fantastic records, beer pong & celebration! Should be an incredible day!

Doors are at 5pm. First band on at 6pm. Come early to ensure entry, eat good food, buy things and drink some beers/juice.

Remember, being a 'dude' is not about gender, creed, sexual orientation or maschismo. Being a dude is about helping your fellow 'dude' & partying. Bring good attitudes, good condiments & PARTY! Let us claim 'DUDE' for everyone, regardless of denomination, who wants to have a good time & be rad. Get involved, make/bring your zine, records, tapes, DVDs etc.

Re: BRIGHTON GIGS

Also, we were meant to be putting on Total Abuse the day before this and it was originally meant to be a weekend long show. For reasons outside of our control that is not happening. They are playing a free show in London on the 5th of June as a replacement for Brighton as we had a string of venues fall through on us and it got to the stage where myself and Ellis decided that finding another show for them was a priority as Brighton was looking unlikely. Sorry to anyone who was looking forward to seeing them, I know I was. Go to the Big Takeover - http://www.bigtakeover.co.uk/?p=26!

Re: BRIGHTON GIGS

This has its own thread but I thought I'd add this here too...

http://profile.ak.fbcdn.net/object2/1390/38/n123147981038922_8240.jpg

TOMORROW NIGHT (FRIDAY 11th  JUNE) - Noxagt & Ultralyd at the Engine Room, Brighton.
Nor-Wave heavyweight double bill!

Reasons why you must not miss this;

NOXAGT haven't been here for 4 years. This will be their first show in Brighton with new guitarist John Hegre (Jazkamer). If you've seen them before you already know that you can't miss them again. They will pulverise and hypnotise.

ULTRALYD similarly have been not been in the UK for a while - 2004 in fact. Last time they were here they were performing completely improvised, black as your heart, bass-heavy free jazz. Since then they have had a line up change (swapping Frode Gjerstad for Kjetil T. Moster) and have been exploring quite a very different path, performing written music which is often minimalist and sometimes even groovy, stitched together by an unnerving murky thread. Anders and Morten are also the duo responsible for MoHa! who have melted minds at the Engine Room and Volks in recent years.

GUM TAKES TOOTH have been in town a few times recently so you might have caught them but this is the FIRST time they have ever played in Brighton as a double drumming trio. Gulp.

DJ SCOTCH EGG will be DJing. Like, actually playing records inbetween the bands. Well... it might not be records, it's probably going to be a laptop let's face it.

DO NOT MISS THIS! EARLY DOORS AT 7pm! POST TO YER FRIENDS!

Wednesday 14th July
@ The Cowley Club, Brighton

FAMILY MAN
Seriously rocking archaic hardcore-punk band from Germanys capital city Berlin featuring members of ATOMGEVITTER. This is quality hardcore-punk. No metal here, no chugga chugga, no double bass, no cheesey riffs, no forcing melody down our throats like many modern hardcore bands today. This is fast classic hardcore-punk with a few modern twists. They manage to mix various older styles of punk and hardcore and come up with this. Fans of BLACK FLAG, BL'AST and early rockin NERVE AGENTS or KILL YOUR IDOLS will lap this up. This is the way hardcore is supposed to sound!
http://www.myspace.com/fmhardcore

GORSE
mixing up doom and metal influences with more off-beat hardcore, psychedelia, prog and Am Rep-style noise rock to create a melancholy mutant, enveloping the listener in waves of heaviness.
