Topic: Thrash Metal

So, what do I need to be listening to outside of the "big four" or whatever. I've been listening to bits of newer bands, but it sounds so slick and over produced, and also a little bit contrived. I dunno if I'm listening to the wrong stuff.

Give me your recommendations. Fast, heavy, silly shredding, stupid riffs. Old or new. Songs about toxic waste, skateboarding, satan and abominable snowmen. Songs that start with a vocal "waaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh" Usual stuff.

Go!

Re: Thrash Metal

One of the reasons people think metal fans are sad bastards is they obsess about the little differences between sub-genres.

Dude I'm not a huge fan of genres and stuff but Morbid Angel definitely aren't in the same box that I'd put Voivod/Exodus etc;

Exodus - Fabulous Disaster
Sacred Reich - The American Way
Overkill - Years of Decay
Annihilator - Alice in Hell
Sodom - Persecution Mania

all absolute klassix!

Re: Thrash Metal

Where's a good place to start with Voivod? They have many records.

Forbidden - Forbidden Evil
Kreator - Pleasure to Kill
Sepultura - Beneath the Remains
Sabbat - History of a Time to Come
Sodom - Persecution Mania
Tankard - The Morning After
Nuclear Assault - Game Over
Exhorder - Slaughter in the Vatican

Re: Thrash Metal

I listened to Toxik yesterday, purely because it had great Thrash Metal artwork, like the Repka stuff (perhaps Repka actually did the Toxik sleeves?)

Anyway, it was fucking godawful. That's all.

I'm digging Kreator's Pleasure To Kill. It's bordering on ridiculous at times, but never once sounds even remotely cheery, unlike Toxik, which sounds like that band Extreme, but twice as fast. Urgh.
