Re: drive like jehu

To be fair, both the recent RFTC and Hot Snakes reunion gigs were kinda meat n' potatoes. Thus not too fussed about missing this one, since I like both those other bands infinitely more than DLJ.

Really? I know we all see the world in different ways and your experience is no less valid than mine, I genuinely thought the RFTC and Hot Snakes gigs (both Newcastle legs) were both fantastic, Hot Snakes in particular.

I'd just love to hear Super Unison live. That and If Credit's What Matters I'll take Credit are my favourite Froberg vocals.

Re: drive like jehu

I enjoyed both, just not as much as when they were going concerns. This could just be because I'm a pissy little sourpuss, of course. Also, RFTC played the Koko, which is a pretty dire venue if you actually like listening to music.

Re: drive like jehu

was praying for a Brude show in leeds

Hot Snakes reunion was tight - but then again, I never saw them in their prime. Same would've gone for a Jehu reunion. I still probably would've tried to see them if they came through Philly.

Re: drive like jehu

for the dlj-ultras

Re: drive like jehu

ATP FFS

Re: drive like jehu

I thought they were better than agreeing to do something with that shitehouse of a company.

Disappointing.

Re: drive like jehu

No idea what they sound like, interesting biblical name for a band though

fix that.

Re: drive like jehu

Wow, thats really great. Exactly what I wanted to hear.

It's not 'flimsy' at all (which tends to put me off a lot of emo)

Re: drive like jehu

DLJ are an awesome band.

Don't know too much about ATP apart from that fact that I would (living in Hong Kong) love to attend a festival that has as many good bands as they seem to put on. What's the beef with them?

Re: drive like jehu

basically rebellion festival for indie bores sold as cutting edge

cancelling events at the last minute and not refunding those who had bought tickets, not paying at all or taking a very long time over paying artists to name but two. basically they're an unscrupulous company running at a loss taking advantage of the hype of just such a thing as having drive like jehu curate a festival.

fuck atp.

Ouch! That's not very cool at all.

DLJ are one of those bands who a whole generation of punx bands took influence from. Not so much an emo band, but the basis for "the sound" for a lot of those bands, along with Fugazi and Slint of course.

I screened a documentary about the SD scene and John Reis was pretty happy to admit they were a mix of the Dischord sound and Slint to their own ears. Which is why it's so good wink

I would heavily suggest you don't travel all the way from Hong Kong to a festival which was cancelled at the last minute!

Re: drive like jehu

I thought the first RFTC reunion show I went to in Barcelona was shit hot, the next one over in Glasgow wasn't nearly as good. Didn't bother with Hotsnakes as they weren't that fantastic live the first time around.

I think the growth of ATP and boutique festival nostalgia wank has kinda killed my interest in going to gigs to a large extent.

Re: drive like jehu

It's mainly been covered now but yea, cancelling events, dodgy business practices, screwing bands and punters over alike.  They just generally don't seem to give a shit yet keep re-naming the actual company and trying again...which is fine if everything has been settled the last time....but to never seems it has been.

As Joe mentions up there ^ also, I'd be very wary of flying over from hong Kong if that was at all your intention!!

I've got that on DVD, really enjoyed the bits around DLJ/RFTC etc.  There's a really good bit of live footage as well (can't remember which song they were playing) which made them sound like the best live band in the world.  I know it won't be anything like that at ATP but still, very annoying.  May try and get them down the Wagon in Brum instead as a warm up as that would be more like it :-).

Good film all round really, although wanted more on Heroin.
