Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

Anyone able to give me a quick recommendation or two for things to do in Norwich? First time I've ever been... Veggie cafes, coffee, emo pilgrimages etc. I take it there's a beer festival on at the moment?

Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

Sound clash is a great record shop. Jack who posts on here will be able to give more information so will Andy who runs C-Zine. Both are Norwich residents.

Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

One day, I hope to take Mob Rules to Colchester to show them the site of my education and perhaps to show them Hilly Fields, some majestic stag beetles and a celebratory pint at either the Playhouse (place of my first self-purchased underage pint) or the Hospital Arms (place of my second self-purchased underage pint).

I'm not into that.

Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

As in "The Donor" Mob Rules?

Dude, if Mob Rules ever want to play Colchester then give me a shout - I'd bloody love to put you on.

The Hospital Arms is still one of the best pubs in Colchester.
The Playhouse is much nicer for breakfast pints.

Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

Yeah, that's correct.

We probably would be into coming down after our new album is out, especially as I can show my band members the sites (and smells) of my formative sexual experiences.

I'm not into that.

Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

You could do a walking tour that kicks off as soon as the set finishes. I'll pack up.

Unbelievable. And very brave.

Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

Not even interested in a bit of insect pootering, given the relatively high population of stag beetles that I previously hinted at?

PS. This is not one of the formative sexual experiences that I also previously hinted at.

I'm not into that.

Re: East Anglia (Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Cambridge)

I'm trying to recall if 'insect pootering' is something I've accompanied Kenny on. Is there an app for it?

Unbelievable. And very brave.

Can't believe we're above the Wing and groove metal legends Overleaf! Now I know we've made it.

Maybe after the show, when the acid jazz is on,  we can go and speak to that guitarist guy from Cradle of Filth who used to sell the tickets at the Arts Centre.

I'm not into that.

brian 'yap' barry of one minute silence once submitted card designs to my place of work. Also it is my understanding that OMS are staging a comeback (kickstarter or similar funded) and they practice in Bethnal Green.

FISTS + MODEL VILLAGE + THE CENTIMES
Wed 14th Aug @ The Corner House, Newmarket Rd, Cambridge CB5 8JE
Doors 8pm, £4 adv from http://www.wegottickets.com/event/234046

FISTS
Fists have been writing, fighting and exciting in various bedrooms and rehearsal spaces across Nottingham since 2005. They signed to Hello Thor in 2009 and released their first single, Cockatoo b/w Skit soon after. Their noisy, joyful and ferociously energetic gigs display the Fists sound in all its crisp, fresh, beautifully bruised glory. Sweet vocal harmonies, rich raw power; original, electrifying indie rock.

Cockatoo was picked to appear on Rough Trade's Counter Culture compilation alongside Emmy The Great, The XX and Fever Ray, and was named as one of Artrocker's top 100 tunes of 2009. The band followed this up with the Olympic Hits EP, which received strong reviews across the board, including coverage from the likes of NME, 6Music and Radio 1.

Then in February 2011 Fists released Ascending b/w Stag (on limited edition green vinyl). Recorded with producer Rory Attwell (S.C.U.M, Comanechi, Fair Ohs, Male Bonding, Veronica Falls) at Pallet Recording Studio in Dalston, the single perfectly exemplifies Fists’ DIY sound as it flits from lilting lo-fi pop to stomping yet experimental garage rock. In 2012 Fists were invited by Obits (Sub Pop) to join them on their sold out East Coast US tour.

Fists' music is influenced by everything from mid-50s skiffle and rockabilly, through lo-fi pioneers like Daniel Johnston and Simon Joyner, to proto-punks the Monks. Throw in the likes of Link Wray, Yo La Tengo, Les Savy Fav, The Breeders, Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers, The Fall, Thee Oh Sees, The Monks and Scott Walker and you might begin to find yourself nearing a place where Fists are coming from. It is DIY, lo-fi; both wildly experimental and toe-tappingly pop. their ace debut album, "Phantasm", is out now on Gringo/Hello Thor.

MODEL VILLAGE
Model Village are an Adult-Orientated Pop outfit who live on the Eastern side of Great Britain. They were formed in 2008 by people who are, or have been, in Econoline, Fuzzy Lights, Slowgun, Hidden Messages, Hey Colossus, EYE HAI, Jet Johnson, etc. but manage to sound like none these. Instead they're attempting to perfect pop music suitable for grown-ups, the group aim to combine their love of jangly pop like Camera Obscura, the darker side of folk as exemplified by Nina Nastasia and the slick sounds of 'Rumours'-era Fleetwood Mac.

In 2012 they released their debut full-length, "A Solution To Everything", following a 2011 that saw them release two singles, get played a bunch of times on BBC 6 Music and XFM, and play gigs with Allo Darlin’, Jeffrey Lewis, MJ Hibbett, Singing Adams, Widowspeak and The Lemonheads, as well as on the main stage at the Indietracks festival. This year should see the follow-up LP released, but in the meantime they're guests on the new releases by A Little Orchestra on Elefant Records and Vollwert Records.

EMMA KUPA
The former singer/bassist from the already-missed Standard Fare and current member of Without Feathers plays tunes new and old, fresh from thrilling a packed-out train at Indietracks.

THE CENTIMES
A far out three-piece-multi-harmonic-sepia-toned-rainbow-boned group from Cambridge

Crikey, these posts have sent me back to the Y Club circa '99. Well played!

I've just moved to Chelmsford, I get the distinct impression nothing happens there except covers bands on the last Friday of the month in some wine bar?

You know what Ripley did in the stasis tubes in Alien? That's the mindset you need to get into.

I'm not into that.
