Seekers of the Truth - making me think about how much better Best Wishes might have been with JJ, then reminding me how terrible Near Death Experience was.

I am now checking out the Milk Music live set on WFMU as recommended wayyy up there on page 1. Fucking fantastic. The 12" is great but the new songs are like, beyond awesome. Cannot wait to see these dudes live.

stop me if i'm wrong, and i'm not sure if i can properly articulate this, but some of the newer songs have a kind of Arcade Fire feel to them, obviously it sounds like Milk Music, but something about the chord progressions or something... this is especially noticable to me on "I've got a Wild Feeling".

I've never heard Arcade Fire so I can't comment. I do think the new MM tunes are bloody catchy, however and that dude can fuckin WAIL.

Just the absolute boy. Unquantifiable amounts of tone mixed with what I would imagine being a similar level of 'tude. Very cool, and possible better than any Blue Cheer records (yeah, I said it).

Yeah man, Holden rules. His tunes on 'New Improved!' shoulda been fleshed out for the whole record.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Not that some people have any reason or impetus to check it out but I'm specifically talking about I've Got a Wild Feeling by Milk Music and The Well and the Lighthouse by Arcade Fire. Similar vocal melodies.

Please post more than just an album name. Thread is pointless otherwise. I stickied the thread to encourage more discussion.

Will start deleting list posts in this thread from now. HEIL¡

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Pre-pub listening: Belgrado LP, not quite the 'post-punk' extravaganza I was hoping for, but still pretty good nonetheless.  Reminds me a little of early Siouxsie.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

I've just been listening to an EP called Self-Portrait by a Mexican band called Assyrian - http://assyrian.bandcamp.com/.

They class themselves as doom/death, but they are much more. The improv jazz flourishes and calming vocal passages in their music, really do take you to another world. I recommend that people check them out.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Ooof, c'mon lads; Population II is cool but in a couple of weeks you'll 'possible' realise that it's not up to Vincebus Eruptum, or the highlights of OutsideInside.

Edit: Currently listening to tracks from the forthcoming Pharaoh Overlord LP. Sounds mighty, feeling it way more than the last couple of offerings. Track called The Rodent sounds like a mix of Gore and Hawkwind (finally!)

Unbelievable. And very brave.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

I'm listening to BYOB by System of a Down - I have to learn to play it on the course I'm doing.

I really liked the first two albums when I were a nipper but this is just shit.  It sounds like they've done a fan competition to "write a song based on the clichés of SOAD" and taken the results and chopped them ham-fistedly together on fruityloops.  There is absolutely no rhyme nor reason to the composition.

The "we're going to a party" section is one of the most eyebrow raisingly poor things I've heard in quite a while and the "political" element is horribly forced.  But I guess it always was.

I think I'm going to watch Trees Lounge on Iplayer instead.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Cemeteray - An Evil Shade Of Grey.

it's a death metal album by a band from Sweden recorded in 1992 at Sunlight Studios. Jamie has previously slapped me on the wrist for declaring all Sunlight Studio stuff as being uniformly amazing. Obviously that's not the case, some stinkers and average stuff. this, however, is awesome. total Dismember feel to it.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Wayfarer - Algiz/Eihwaz

These are the tracks from the tape that is going to come with the boxset. Absolutely loving it, this is the second or third time I've been listening to these tracks. Yeah, they've been associated with the whole Holy Terror thing but this is by no means an Integrity rip-off, nevermind a bad one. Sounds more like metal than hardcore and I like that!

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Criminal Code EP - Very, very rarely I'll buy a 7" by a band I haven't heard if I'm getting something else from a distro, just on the strength of a description, or on what others have told me about a band. I did that with this, and I should learn my lesson not to, because this SUCKS.

This album is a good morning pick because it's so incredibly harmless. I think Comet Gain are still going but I feel fairly confident that I don't really need to hear anything else they did. That's not to say I don't like this; a korma is fine, sometimes.

I'm not into that.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Crash of Rhinos, and it's James's fault. Gang vocals ahoy!

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Might use some of these as reviews.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Discharge - Hear Nothing...

I'm studying music and fancied learning something waaaaay off the curriculum and thought of this.

The Possibility of Life's Destruction is in the Locrian mode incidentally, which is pretty jazzy for the punx?

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

AFI - The art of drowning

Still love it as much as I did when I was 14/15, definitely think it has aged well and AFI were a legit good punk rock band.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Dead Moon - Strange Pray Tell LP. While I know the first 3 LPs much better, this is still a corker, and the perfect follow up to Easter Everywhere which I had on before. Best band.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Return to Forever - Where Have I Known You Before

Love this. If Scientology has produced just a few diamonds out of a ton of bullshit, it's the records of RTF!

Dillard and Clark - The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard and Clark
If, like me, your favourite Byrds album is Sweetheart of the Rodeo, then you could certainly do worse than check out what the ex-Byrds was doing at almost exactly the same time. Definitely better than that pretty creepy Gene Parsons album where he's hanging out on the cover looking like Easy Rider with an axe. I'm not really sure how much Doug Dillard really contributes, because I'm not familiar with the Dillards but it's a big improvement on the first Gene Clark album, which is mainly notable for an appearance from Mr Music himself, Jerry Cole, a man who was grinding out multiple, entire, albums in a day for some seriously questionable labels.

I'm not into that.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Small Black - Moonkiller mixtape.  Downloaded this a couple of months ago and sort of felt like i shouldnt like it (nicki minaj samples etc) but as it was totally disposable it was ok to rinse it for a week or two. Still getting plays.

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Virulence - If This Isn't a Dream LP. Really like this record, despite it's flaws. You can actually hear crossover with then label-mates Melvins early material, even though it's obviously more firmly in the Bl'ast/late Flag idiom. Also think Rational Animals are probably into it

Re: What are you listening to RIGHT NOW?

Rival Schools - "united by fate"

going through old CDs while I work in the hope of building "trash"  and "keep" piles and came across this, bought from local radio station's CD and record sale in 2004 (ish), on the strength of it being a few bucks and hearing it spoken about positively somewhere. i think if there is a type of music that i cannot abide it is this fucking soulless constipated alternarock drivel, jesus, foo fighters seems gritty by comparison. glossy, meaningless drivel, with writhing comical pretend emotions. oh look, a fucking key change - we is songwritering now. listening to killdozer earlier on this morning just highlights how low and contemptible this shit is. the cover has a sticker on it saying "features members of Quicksand and CIV", and a KERRANG! quote stating "possibly the greatest modern rock album since NEVERMIND - KKKKK"....i'm going outside to hurl this at the sun.

edited to correct album title - in my blind rage i missed it.
