Topic: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

recently i have been listening to a lot of GLAM and the WIERD TV stuff

after asking for some recommendations on the 'hardcore punk / new releases / small talk...' thread for more spanish language punk / hardcore i was advised that it would need an entire thread....

i really like what i've heard and i want to delve a little deeper smile

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

I noticed some friends discussing this documentary on facebook, it's well good:

Beyond The Screams, a film about the Latin American hardcore scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYph2q44MQU

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

Tercer Mundo and Inservibles are two killer Mexican bands I can think of straight off. The Inservibles LP in particular is amazing.

this has served as a gentle reminder to watch this, i also saw someone (possibly Joe C) discussing this on facebook

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

I remember the E-150 side of the split with Zanussi being great. I'm pretty sure that's in Spanish.

Cinder from Barcelona had their moments too, although some of their songs were in English.

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

Una Bestia Uncontrolable, Crosta (both Catalan language i think?), Sudor, Ilegal, Generacion Suicida, Belgrado (well, Spanish as well as Polish and English lyrics), Atentado, Absurdo, Orden Mundial - all recent/current bands

last of the tonic wine

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

As far as contempory stuff goes, one of the best hardcore records of all time is OTAN - El Indominable 7". It's very important in understanding the recent 'rebirth' of the punk scene within Spain. E-150, along with Sin Dios, were the important bands of the late 1990s/early 2000s, the former went into a band called Fix Me, whose 12" is excellent, HARD hardcore punk with the rolling sound of Deciebelos. Aspirin Infantil, Silla Electrica, Sudor and Atentado have all done quality records. The Cisma, and the Arrest demos are great, with the Absurdo one being of particular high quality.

Accross the water, I rate Mundo Muerto from USA and Ilegal from Canada, and Putas Miedas, Crimen, and Los Monjo from Mexico, though these bands probably owe more to the sound of Eskoburto, than to a 'hardcore' sound. Morbo, from Peru, is a great band that I think captures element of the 'classic' spanish sound of TNT, KGB and Larsen. There's a great recent compilation of Peruvian and Mexican bands that well worth checking out: Brutalas Mantades - the Masturbator track is mind blowing.

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

Obvs its as wide a question as 'bands who sing in english' really, but the folks who do Silenzio Statico (they have a showspace/record shop) in LA also play in a bunch of bands you'll probably dig:

Drapetomania
Rayos X
Mata Mata
Tuberculosis

there'll be stuff on
http://staticoponx.com/

From Austin, TX i think you'll particularly like these too:

Kurraka http://kurraka.bandcamp.com/
Criaturas https://soundcloud.com/criaturas
Deskonocidos http://terminalescape.blogspot.co.uk/20 … cidos.html
Vaaska http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYjnGSnHm2o

Ps. Your WEIRD TV record is on its way!

bry : yeah it know its a bit 'broad' (to say the least) haha i'm currently (read - slowly) learning spanish you see and i was talking to a friend who said "spanish language punk and hardcore is great, especially when you start picking up on lyrics/themes as you're learning more" so i checked out GLAM and WIERD TV and really 'dug' them but to be honest i'm rubbish (and a little lazy) at discovering good music without pointers from people.

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

Deskonocidos LP is amazing.

Obvious one: Los Crudos.

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

There are loads of free downloads here.

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

And following on from Crudos I just pulled out a Needles's 7" yesterday and that's solid Spanish language punk.

The 'beyond the screams' docu is great and there's also a Puerto Rican one called La Escena that's worth a watch. I really like Tropezio from PR too actually.

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

Vaaska and Deskonocidos are really good shouts. Definitely two of the best from recent years!

Sam, I don't know if you've checked the new Needles 7", but it is a stone cold ripper. Same as the first two basically, but bettttteeeerrrrr.

Re: spanish language punk / hardcore...?

Nope it managed to slip by me, I see it's on Iron Lung right? Play it for me this weekend!
