Topic: gothy modern anarcho

SECT is the best stuff I heard.

AUTONOMY are also good.

What else is good? Belgrado? Arctic Flowers?

Re: gothy modern anarcho

While I like this sound, the whole slavishness of the bands doing it at the moment really hacks me off. Realise there's 'nothing new under the sun' and all that, but I wish more bands would try to find their own sound rather than just aping some obscure band recording a demo tape in a council flat in the 80s.

Dig the last Atriarch album for this reason (not what you're looking for at all and hardly 100% original, but at least incorporating different elements) and Deskonocidos as well.

Re: gothy modern anarcho

Lost Tribe

Re: gothy modern anarcho

When I was in Portland last year seemingly every new band was doing this sort of thing. Probably partly due to all the shared members. Arctic Flowers were great, and Moral Hex were also very good. Also Bellicose Minds, Funeral Parade, newer Deathcharge, maybe even The Estranged..?

Actually The Estranged is a bit of a stretch to be honest!

We're going to party, karamu, fiesta, forever.

Belgrado. The LP is great, the 7" on LVEUM is even better

originality isn't going to get you on any MRR Top Ten Lists ;-)

Re: gothy modern anarcho

i wonder if there is an elite cabal of punks who sit around and discuss "what trend are we going to bring back this year?" and then they infiltrate into bands and get them all to play that thing wot they decided.

Re: gothy modern anarcho

similar to the emo illuminati you control ;-)

Re: gothy modern anarcho

yes, that one is is easy though and requires much less effort.

"what trend are we going to bring back last year?"
"the same one as every year since 1994!"

Im pretty sure this actually happens. It's also really easy to spot if you've been in the "scene" "for a while" when its about to shift.

Re: gothy modern anarcho

Deathcharge and Crosta are two of my recent favourites and yeah that Sect LP is excellent.

Trying to imagine how an elite cabal might operate in this sense is quite amusing.

Re: gothy modern anarcho

It has to be so unpopular previously, yet have a tangible link, even if its through just one band/record to become the next trend...

Re: gothy modern anarcho

personally i think musical trends are descriptive rather than prescriptive.

Sect are still the stand out one for me.

Re: gothy modern anarcho

Sect remind me of like goth era Cure but over Flux of Pink Indians or Rudimentary Peni kinda rhythms, it works!

Think i said at the start of the year that i thought more anarcho punk bands would reform this year. Internal Autonomy & Part 1 so far. Pretty sure more will follow.

Re: gothy modern anarcho

are you in the cabal Ray?

Re: gothy modern anarcho

quick, get him and ask him what limited releases I should put my parents savings into next year!

Re: gothy modern anarcho

apparently you should buy as many la boite diabolique 7"s as you can find

I'm not singing for the future
I'm not dreaming of the past
I'm not talking of the first time
