Re: Gun Outfit

At the moment I like Possession Sound in equal measure to Hard Coming Down. I think over time, Possession Sound will always be my favourite (I can foresee it).
It took me a long time to like Dim Light and the first time I saw them they played the slower songs and I was well into it. A week later at a more punk affair, they played the faster, earlier numbers and despite being really good, didn't tickle me round the lugs as much. I can safely state that Dim Light is their worst.

I like music.

Re: Gun Outfit

To me they're a band who've noticeably progressed, with Hard Coming Down being my favourite thing so far. 'Dim Light' is a debut and has all the problems that might entail, but it also includes songs like 'Troubles Like Mine' which are firm favourites of mine...

It's been great to see them develop and not stagnate like so many other bands, and I also hope they come over again

Re: Gun Outfit

Ashamed to say I've only heard Dim Light, but they were amazing when they came over. I've got a copy of Hard Coming Down on order as it seems to be universally praised by my friends.

Re: Gun Outfit

i've given the latest one a few whirls and it still won't click with me. can't figure out why.

Re: Gun Outfit

I agree with RobxT with the progression - it is marvellous to see and hear. And all their stuff has some great songs on. After Possession Sound came out I realised I could put them into my exclusive list of musical acts that I really look forward to hearing what is churned out next.
So when are they over again?

I like music.

so what is the best gun outfit record then?

possession sound for me. just spot on pacing, great songs, does no wrong.

This is probably one of my favorite current bands and I can't really choose a specific record because they're all different. I even like the tapes they released. The last one contained embrionary versions of songs off the new record.

Re: Gun Outfit

how are people feeling about the new record? I'm feeling less bowled over than I did by Hard Coming Down, can't quite put my finger on it - maybe it's a bit one-note in comparison?

also, on a related note (or collection of), has anyone noticed that the start of their tune 'lady of the highway' sounds (exactly) similar to 28th day's 'pages turn'? rad tunes all-round anyway.

I like music.

Re: Gun Outfit

I prefer the new one to 'Hard Coming Down'. I love them all, but I think 'Possession Sound' will always be my personal favourite.

Re: Gun Outfit

I love it - the 'country' element is a bit stronger (some similarities to label-mate Steve Gunn), but without as much of the the SST  alterna vibe (SY/Meat Puppets/Dino Jr etc) that was in the earlier stuff, so it's a definite development either way. I need to spend a lot more time with it, which I undoubtedly will. 'Hard Coming Down' is probably my favourite over all.

Re: Gun Outfit

latest is a bit 'samey' but still digging it. good excuse to revisit the previous records.

Re: Gun Outfit

New one is a bit too country for me. Good, but I can't really get into it. Yet.

Re: Gun Outfit

definitely enjoying the more country sound myself. glad they're coming over

Re: Gun Outfit

Can't wait to see em again.

Re: Gun Outfit

new one is good, though maybe a little one paced, none of the songs stood out for me. they're no dying californian.

Re: Gun Outfit

Re: Gun Outfit

kinda bummed theres not Notts date.

I coulda done it

Re: Gun Outfit

They were amazing in Leeds, definitely made me appreciate the new album more too (and the EP and tape they've been selling on tour are both excellent - the EP includes the song ewan posted above). Probably my favourite band going.

Re: Gun Outfit

I like the records, but they nearly killed me in London, I was so underwhelmed.

One thing that confused me was the fact that everyone 'loved' the gig but there was such a low energy in the room, and some of the applause barely reached, what can only be described as, a smattering. Loads of people leaving early, or chatting... But that seems to be the way some London gigs go...

it was great though a shame about (Dylan?) being so out of tune on that song (3rd from end) with the lyrics red and blue..

Re: Gun Outfit

Didn't notice!

Re: Gun Outfit

thought they were great this time - might as well have been a different band to the one I saw 5 years ago (who were also great for different reasons). Will probably go to the second London show in a couple of weeks and pick up that tour EP and tape.
