I have been on the same search for ages.... Young Widows' latter stuff perhaps?  Or The Constantines?

There’s that fine line to balance on for good intense and intelligent post-hardcore, esp if you want brass too that doesn't fall apart into bad meandering post-rock

The Great Unraveling are amazing too
and The Convocation  (of)
also, Gods & Queens
..... all these bands and possibly this style is dead.

Forgot about this lot. Dead good.

Re: Any contemporary bands that sound like this?

The instrumental side of it reminds me of that Moin ep on Blackest Ever Black

Re: Any contemporary bands that sound like this?

Regulator Watts.... if that wasn't overly obvious with being related .... 'The Ballad of St Tinnitus' maybe one of the finest songs ever written

Also, probably controversial and unpopular choice but some of the noisier moments on the Sun Kil Moon/Jesu collaboration conjures kindred feelings when listening in the right mood
