Topic: Berlin

Going for 3 days later this week. Any suggestions on what to do, places to go, record shops, places of interest etc would be helpful and appreciated.

Re: Berlin

Where you staying, Ray? We stayed at Alexanderplatz a few years ago. Handy for lots of stuff. Try Static Shock Musik (https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Sta … b77c7c5790). Excellent shop. Spent ages in there, much to my girlfriend's annoyance! Right next to Kreuzberg, the "alternative" area of Berlin. Lots of bars and veggie/vegan places. Great city. I'd love to go back and see more.

Re: Berlin

Staying about 2 blocks from checkpoint Charlie, winters hotel. Weather looks fierce!

Re: Berlin

Yellow Sunshine in Kreuzberg remains my favourite veggie burger.

When I went I did mostly museum/historical things would recommend The Topography of Terror, Jewish Museum, Holocaust Memorial, Berlin Wall Memorial. I did an excellent walking tour with http://www.berlinwalks.de/public/index/ … d/Discover - I did the 'Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp Memorial' but that's probably a bit of a time sink if you're only there for a few days because it's out of town. Something more local for a morning might be worth it, but you probably won't be short of things to do.

I'd really love to get back again and do more just eating/drinking/hanging out. Have a great time.

Seconded.

Aside from everything already mentioned, I'd suggest the DDR museum and the Stasi HQ if you're into cold war-era history/formica.

using gay to describe some novelty christmas cards is just so fucking ignorant

Re: Berlin

Thanks boys for all the suggestions. Will defo check out as much as I can and report back.

Re: Berlin

spreepark is fun! abandoned theme park. watch out near the ferris wheel though, my friend did a shit underneath it.

Re: Berlin

Tadjikische Teestube. Look it up.

Re: Berlin

Bis Aufs Messer - very good record shop in Friedrichshain
Across the other side of F'hain Hops and Barley is a great bar that brew their own, and it's very tasty

Re: Berlin

Late pass to the Berlin love-in, just had four days there. Great place.

Records...
Bis Aufs Messer (brilliant for punk, hardcore, indie, garage, and metal too I guess).
Soultrade (Got stuck in to the (northern) soul represses, loads of other soul, hip hop, jazz, funk as well as general rock / pop)
Heisse Scheißen (tons of second hand stuff across all genres)

Got some bargains at Boxhagener Platz flea market as well.

Went to Køpi 26th Birthday party too which was great, there were all sorts of bands and discos and films going off. Dead good. Would recommend gigs or events there I guess.

Also went to an FC Union Berlin match. I know everyone bangs on about German football being way better for the fans etc...
But yeah, it was top atmosphere and beers and sausages and everything else.

Re: Berlin

I was there this time last month. Friedrichshain is cool as hell. Loved Bis Auf Messer.

The coffee scene in Berlin is amazing, if you like that kind of thing (and I do!) - The Barn, Silo, No Fire, No Glory etc.

There's a street food market in Kreuzberg on a Thursday, had something called a muffle - a waffle and muffin cross which is wraped into a cone and filled with chocolate cream. The baos are pretty special too.

Supamolly is a cool punk bar in the north of F-shain, I liked it a lot. Hops & Barley might be named after a Wat Tyler/Leatherface song but that appears to be the only connection to punk. Good beer though!

Re: Berlin

Micheleberger (sp) hotel is good for cocktails and ping pong. Right next to Kreuzberg station if I remember it right. Miss Berlin. Need to get back.
