Topic: Art Bears

Holy shit, this band was intense for 1979.

Why has no-one told me about them before?

Re: Art Bears

Ektro Records/Full Contact Records is reissuing their debut album.

Re: Art Bears

Might see if I can get it on vinyl, along with the second album.

Can anyone name anything from the 70's which sounds more intense than this? It sounds like proto Melt-Banana

And what the hell is going on here? It's like a mixture between Curved Air and Current 93.

(I'm not sure about the third/final album yet, the overt political messages make it a bit harder to stomach.)

Re: Art Bears

It might be a bit of an obvious thing to say but given the various crossovers in membership and so on, any of the RIO affiliated stuff is worth checking out for nuts music from that period.

Having said that, I've never actually spent much time with Art Bears and this stuff sounds really good.  Certainly a unique total band while being coloured with all the usual Frithy elements.

Wow - they're doing some great non-Circle related releases.

Re: Art Bears

I get stuff in from Ektro every so often as I like the noise-rock stuff they do (Baxter Stockman, Hebosagil) plus the Circle and heavy metal bits. Can look into getting some of these if people are interested? Might not be super soon

Re: Art Bears

Think they've done some pretty decent archive/reissue bits in the past few years - Death Trip, Hexenhaus, X_X, Leviticus, Toiling Midgets etc.
