I'm trying and failing to work out where Andrea Cassese fits in in this thing we call music. I think Andrea is too as he stands pondering in a variety of positions on the CD inlay and booklet. His music is sort of poppy but fundamentally it's in the realms of folk; it's multi-instrumental, with a violin used often. There's an occasional drum beat but it sounds like a basic drum machine rather than the real thing (it's very clean) - and there's a bunch of other sounds that appear now and then from the likes of a saxophone and stringed instruments - twelve other musicians play an important part in the album along with Andrea's voice and guitar. 'Anche quando non capiamo' sounds like a soundtrack to the Italian-dubbed version of Arietty. 'Ritratto', where the saxophone appears, is a slow and sombre number; I have no idea what it's about. And so on... Pleasant listening on a winter's day.
