Always had a soft spot for Carlton Melton, but it must be a few years since our paths last crossed. Found this one in a Toronto sale bin while I was away on a work trip, and while at five songs spinning at 45rpm it's little more than an appetite-whetter it was still worth the two quid price tag and the additional strain on my disintegrating spine/record bag. Hearteningly, in the time since I last heard them, little appears to have changed. Things are still bleary and hypnotic, with sleepy arpeggios and stargazing guitar leads tethered loosely by low-level bass pulsations and murmuringly insistent drum patterns. If you're a fan then you were likely on this when it came out for last year's Record Store Day, but if not and you’re fond of Bardo Pond, Barn Owl or the idea of Neu! jamming a few Grateful Dead interpretations then pick a copy up by way of primer and enjoy the short, sweet trip it takes you on.
