Hot on the heels of their 'Hopes Of Failure' LP for Thrill Jockey Iowa's Aseethe are back, and, true to form, what they're doing ain't pretty. Their contribution here – a five-minute track called 'Wrong' – is heavy, dense and craggily textured, mixing atonal riffing with some surprising bursts of speed. Snow Burial explore a different side of the low, slow and heavy theme with a sound that's more melodic and far smoother at the edges. Their 'Sever The Bloodline' offers a reliable avalanche of riffs, though it owes so much to Neurosis you get the feeling the band should be paying royalties. Solid all round, then, though Aseethe are definitely the place to start if you like your doom to be a little more wayward.
