New song alert! Burning Airlines are back with a brand new song called "The Deluxe War Baby" on this lovely looking picture disk (neat Commie theme). And it stomps. Big juicy thumping bassline, J's vocals on top form, lots of neat touches, and a totally delicious, bouncing chorus. This grooves like anything. Um, think if Burning Airlines suddenly got poppier, and influenced by the Beatles and other 60's stuff. Even catchier than those sticky things you hang from the roof in the summer to get flies. The Airlines are my biggest concession to rock music next to the Promise Ring and Jets to Brazil, and there is no question that they do anything other than rock. This kicks. And I still don't own a Jawbox record. Heh.

At The Drive In. I've always liked these guys since I heard the "in/casino/out" record, though it took me a while to get into the 10". This track has a big thick rolling bass, and those typical shouty vocals. More of a DC influence going on here than they've had before, it has a nice quiet break, and lots of powerful, post-hardcore guitar work. But overall, it's throwaway and a bit piecemeal, especially compared to their other stuff.
