Lummocks. I have just heard the band that put the POP into pop punk, and they are called Dirt Bike Annie. This 4 tracker contains 2 prize gems, and to so-so tracks, but the gems are just so shiny and brilliant I can't help but rave about this.

The genius track of this is "R U Ready For The Summer" which I do proclaim to be the happiest song of all time. Incredibly hyper and bouncy pop punk, makes me want to dance around and sing, neither of which I do too well, which means it must be great. It's totally bursting at the seams with super cute boy + girl vocals and backups ('oo-oo!'), some handclaps, fun lyrics and more enthusiasm than you can shake a stick at. This just kills me.

I'm not so fussed with "Ballad of Johnny Heartbreak", which is a throwback US pop song that could have quite easily featured in a movie High School Graduation Ball like say, Back To The Future.

The other standout song here is "Next Time...", another dose of unbelievably poppy genius. A little Get Up Kids in a way, just poppier. I don't know, it's just that songs like this ought to be all over the radio? What's up?

Things are rounded out with the standard pop punk of "Marcia, She's Trying To Kill Me" which sounds like 95343 other US pop punk bands. Never mind, they have those 2 other songs which rule the world, so I won't complain.

Summers here kids! Go buy a Dirt Back Annie record.
