This record really came out of the blue, I wasn’t expecting a new record from him as it hadn’t really been that long since the last one. Well, this is a real change again. This is nothing like the last one.

From the amazing cover to the haunting country songs, this feels like a lost record. It opens up with the really dark atmospherics of “amateur night” and from there on it just swallows me up. I love all the tracks on this record but the track “abeline” is my favourite. It does sound like a lost Palace track but he brings his own twist to it and he has a fantastic voice which differs from Oldhams. This is a really short album too.

Also I should add this is a great sister record to the new Songs: Ohia LP, which takes a much rockier path (i.e. very close to Neil Young). These two records (both on Secretly Canadian) make a great tape and both look great next to each other.

Well done Secretly Canadian! Now bring us more Racebannon!!
