Biffy, one of my favourite bands seen to have sneaked out this single to fill the gap before the new album out in the next couple months hopefully. I’d kinda forgotten how much I liked Biffy Clyro’s music, and this 3-tracker served as the perfect reminder, exploring all the different faces of the band.

‘The Ideal Height’ begins slightly brighter and quirkier than material from ‘Blackened Sky’, but crashes into that familiar distortion later on in the track. The classic three-way harmonies are gratifyingly implemented on the chorus, and later the power and anthemic feel of their best material is revisited with some great lyrics and vocals.

Track two is Biffy Clyro doing the whole quiet/loud, dark and shouty/quiet and angelic thing that really makes them stand out from pretty much anything else you’d be able to pick up in the little local virgin megastore singles section. The last song is a solid bit of semi-acoustic Biffy, - a quality track, that nonetheless doesn’t match the brilliant acoustic song they out on 27, their first single from the full length.

Can’t wait for the next album after hearing this; should be a good un. Kudos to Biffy Clyro for basically being amazing, alternative and yet purchasable from the high street.
