Taint are one of my most favouritest things in the whole wide world ever - a power trio. They also produce a pretty fearsome wall of noise from a simple drums, guitar, bass and scream setup. Downtuned, depressed and angry, Taint are one of a only a handful of British bands that appreciate the good work bands like Neurosis and Melvins are doing. Although "Days Of The Basilisk" starts with a pretty run-of-the-mill riff, it transforms beautifully into a snail's-paced stoner groove epic, before ending on a tribal-rhythm led guitar wig-out, all in about 3 minutes! Damn cool, and pretty different. "Fulfill" has a bunch of great Sabbath-y riffs before turning into a full-on 5-minute noodling session, and "Chevy Chase" has a fine title. Only 3 songs? More please!

Black Eye Riot are my second most favouritest things in the whole wide world ever - a band with way too many members (Slipknot is the exception). BER slither out of Swansea and do really noisy and fast hardcore damage, with offensive songtitles, that is proficiently played by all concerned. Unfortunately, they don't quite have the songs just yet, and it all seems a bit unoriginal in this day and age, bashing away with little or no variety. Hopefully, in the future, they'll find their own voice, and really let rip. I bet my left nut that this lot are wicked live though. What's with the trend in having two singers nowadays too?

Taint win this round - BETTING ENDS!
