A horrible hack

Saetia pretty much ploughed a new furrow in the well-trod field of emotional hardcore, leaving their mark and setting a standard that few have matched since. It was about inoccence and emotions laid bare, poetic lyrics drawn out over music that could flutter between frantic chaos and almost jazz-like beauty, the desperate cries of broken hearts spoken, yelled and screamed with all the urgency lungs would allow. Past commentators have mentioned 400 Years and Sleepytime Trio as points of reference, and the legacy can be seen in more recent bands as The Vida Blue, Hot Cross and perhaps You & I. But beyond all comparisons Saetia stood on their own, breaking hearts in basement shows and ultimately doomed to semi-obscurity while the noise they made is pillaged and pilfered from by a myriad lesser acts.
