It never ceases to amaze me that just when you think you've got the UK scene sussed, you know the bands that are good and the bands that are bad (after all, you see them play your local venue every other week, ha!) along comes Cotton Weary and proves that maybe you should have been paying better attention.

Eight tracks and I guess this is what all the kids are calling emo-punk nowadays. Interlacing energetic melodic punk with more subdued, erm, emo moments there is a great deal of quality on display here. When they go for the pop-punk jugular with tracks such as 'Shredding Skin' and 'Short Round', the latter making the most effective use of two very strong and very distinctive vocalists, its hard not to be impressed. Even more so when the band slides into the emo-pop, jangle fest of 'As We Slide' or acoustic bliss of 'Painted for a View'.

I've had this CD on heavy rotation for the past few weeks and have yet to tire of it. Ridiculously accomplished songs for a debut release, and songs you'd do well to get hold of.
