Battle Royale have their artwork all wrong. They need gloomy black and white photos of misty Norwegian fjords, over which hovers a logo of their band-name rendered in an utterly illegible, ornate typeface. For this is metal. Good old, fist-pumping, charge-around-your-room styled metal, without any of that bullshit ironic posturing that can really render things like this meaningless. In fact, maybe it has more of a modern metalcore feel to it, as the band like to mix it up with sudden time changes, throwing in elements of grind and hardcore in manic fashion. But when they suddenly bust out a trebly duelling guitar-line of pure, unbridled, Germanic, metallic fury, and you find your devil-horn-signing hands aloft in the air as you headbang along, you’ll probably be thinking “Surely life can’t get any better than this, can it?” If you’re not convinced, this reminds me of Morser and At The Gates. If you’re still not convinced, you are a wally. This is also out as a limited 7” on Vendetta Records too, albeit with two of the five tracks missing.
