Black Witchery are a relentless thrashing Satanic black metal machine. I get the impression that their link to Satanism is stronger than their fellow “black” bands Black Sabbath and Black Widow. This record, like the latest Revenge LP, has no breaks, keyboard melodies or old school melodic guitar touches (like Dissection or At the Gates), it’s pure no holds barred metal.

The speed and ferocity of the music is extreme, like many of the power violence and grind bands (such as Excruciating Terror, Avulsion or Warsore) this is a barrage of noise. It’s a regression from a lot of other black metal I’ve been listening too recently, and although I have generally been preferring bands such as Velvet Cacoon, Leviathan and Haemoth you can’t deny the onslaught on “Upheavel of Satanic Might”. On “Profane Savagery” they sound somewhere inbetween Disembowlment and Corrupted before dropping the dirtiest, hateful death/black metal riff I’ve heard in a time.

The artwork is as crucial as the music, it’s about as tasteful as the Iron Monkey “serial killer” artwork but that just makes it all the better.
