Thee Ashtray Navigations are an excellent group (mainly Phil Todd I believe but on this record he is joined by Hilary Insall and Alexander Neilson).

They were a group I had heard of but never heard until I saw them with the wonderful Vibracathedral Orchestra in Burton-on-Trent a while back and they certainly fit in with the Vibracathedral way of droning it out with metal clutters and free-form buzzes. This new cdr is much better than the 7" I picked up thankfully. The first three tracks are about 30 seconds a piece and it only really picks up when it reachs track 4. The ethereal drone pulsing in and out whilst Alexander Neilsons drums smash over the top in a free-form blowout. The (presumably) violin playing is absolutely beautiful. It reminded me of Nils Oklands' classic playing and really brought something to the trademark head-down drone.

Highly recommended dudes!
