I must admit I had never heard of Ten Volt Shock before receiving this CD, and was going simply on the description of them being a 'noise rock' band when I asked to review it. However; this proved rewarding as Ten Volt Shock play a form of noise rock that grooves and meanders through many different passages all the while essentially playing the same song, but all the while mixing it up with some rough post hardcore whaling. They don't really change things up too much but to be honest it's because they don't need to - the bass lines hold everything together nicely whilst the drums pound away and the guitar scorches over the top of everything to handle the higher end of things.

The distorted bass lines groove in such a way that they remind me a lot of Shotmaker in a way, yet with a modern twist which recalls bands much like My Disco or the fuzziness of Big Black, but with a fuck load more shouting and distortion. These guys know how to make a racket and they're quite happy to do just that and not much else really, but does that matter? This release is all about driving tempos and heavy distortion, and they manage to make it interesting. Although it's next to impossible to discern one song from another it doesn't really matter that much, after all there's not much else you can do when you go for this kind of sound to be honest.

In conclusion this CD is noise rock that sounds like Shotmaker meets Big Black in my opinion. Definitely worth checking out, these guys definitely deserve some attention. I'd definitely like to see them if they ever decided to tour around these parts. Good stuff.
