Vessels are a 5-piece from Leeds who play Don Caballero-esque postrock and what I have here is a CD single of ‘Meatman, Piano Tuner, Prostitute’. That is a terrible name for a song and it put me off for a bit. After much caffeine consumption, I was brave enough to give it a go. Surprisingly, the song is quite good. They also had hired a friend who sounded like Thom Yorke to do vocals for this track. That is very clever. Do you know anyone who sounds like Thom Yorke? If you do, keep him. Trust me, it will get you places. I got sucked in immediately. I don’t understand why I have to review three versions of the same song. It’s not like they’re very different from each other. There is an album version (with the classic postrock formula....quiet quiet quiet hauntingly quiet loud loud quiet), the radio edit (same as album version sans loud bit) and a Meaty Lamb remix which is good for djs should they want to play around and do some sampling or mashups. Another track , ‘Ornafives’, can also be found here and it’s nothing too impressive but I’m sure will be enjoyed in a big venue with an awesome sound system. As I’m typing this, I’m listening to their other stuff found on their website. They should’ve sent an album instead because they’re actually not that bad as I make them out to be. While I understand their new album will only be out in 2011, still, they shouldn’t be a tease. If Vessels think they want a be a tease, then it’s not working. Don’t be a tease. Just man up already. Do check them out if they’re in the neighbourhood.
